You lost me there...

Soldiers take fewer risks today, sure, but that doesn't make them less brave; not by a long shot. Caution is nesecary considering the type of war we're fighting. Booby traps, hidden explosives, and clever ploys are how the people we're engaged in combat with fight, and with good reason. Therefore, we need to be cautious, otherwise we'd take horrible casualties.

I think RO already has plenty of in-your-face action. It's a fast-paced game, despite it being a realism game.

I've seen that video before. I fully understand the Marines' reluctance to clear that house. I wouldn't call it cowardice. Just imagine. You are on the roof of a house, and underneath your feet is a deep, dark hole filled with insurgents who want to kill you. Would you really enter that hole? No one with half a braincell would do that. War isn't about equality. In war you want to have an unfair advantage over your enemy and that's exactly what you see in the video. They 'unfairly' shoot up the house with large-caliber weapons and only then they clear it. Why would you risk the lives of several of your men if the tanks can turn the enemy into a splattered goo?

Unfair, but it works.

Oh man I remember seeing this vid years ago, and I was like, "wow, modern warfare sucks balls"

but it makes sense why it is so anti-climactic. Imagine playing RO, but every single person had an STG44 and grenades. Now throw in RPGs and satchel booby traps. Mix that all in with an enemy who is NOT afraid to die (just like in RO ;)), remove respawns, and there you go, modern warfare in Iraq

Anyone with half a brain would not only tear the house apart with a 50. cal, but also call in some chopper support just to be sure

Oh hell, this game would be more than just boring!

Standing around a little house (1 1/2 floors) with 25 men and waiting... zzzZZZzzzZZZzzz

Than after ages, 3 of them try to creep into the house. Placing a fire-cracker ?! (at 1:22) on the roof. Than waiting again... get frightened, fleeing, almost stumbling and endanger your own comrades with this action (at 2:06), kicking against a wall (2:29), waiting, waiting,
going down a stairway (3:10-4:20), shooting and kicking a door, leaving the house and almost shot yourself in the foot.
(4:58-5:27) shooting down the whole house, returning an find 2 enemies.

That leads me to one question? Why?
1-2 handgranades would have done the job in less time.

Back to history. They called it Blitzkrieg for a certain reason....

It is people like you that makes me worry about the new fans of RO. Your complete lack of common sense about warfare in reality coupled with you confusion over the aim of RO's gameplay makes me question your age, maturity or IQ. It is disgusting that little know-nothing kids like you, whose only experience with weapons and "warfare" comes from playing video games, think that they know better than professional soldiers in a real life fight.

try this... set a 5 minute timer... and do ur best to kill the enemy, go for objectives and not die in that time... adds so much more to the game... keep adding time to the timer as u get better... ur game style changes drastically... to the point where u do play those those guys in that house... i found it way more fun than C*DMW2 (sorry i can't bring myself to write the name of such a game in a forum like this) ;)

Ok so whoever was the OP is an idiot 12 year old with no knowledge of history or what is currently happening in the world today, meaning he knows nothing AT ALL about what its like for other people than himself. Todays warfare is much different than the warfare of 70 years ago! In WW2 there were these things called "uniform", and every soilder wore one so that it was easy to identy you to your allies. Now the only people wearing a uniform are known as the "modern world" meanwhile everyone else in ****y little countries called "the 3rd world" walk around in normal cloths and hide from the guys in uniforms until they have a clear shot at thier enemy. Then they pull an AK47 out of thier asses.

1st: Please don't insult other people, even if they deserve it.
2nd: You could be insulted as well for the same reason.
3rd: What's an AK45?

I'd imagine room clearing in Stalingrad consisted of throwing grenades through a window, hole, or doorway to kill possible enemy on the other side. That or artillery on whole buildings and possibly flamethrowers.

Artillery sounds about right tbh, be that self-propelled (like stugs) or whatever.
At least our forward observer instructor in the army told us that in urban warfare you'd usually just call arty on the houses. But that's the finnish doctrine, blow the **** out of everything with arty >_>

We in the US Army also support this idea of taking out the whole city block before moving in. However, in today's politically correct war (which is just stupid) we cannot as civilian causalities would be too high. Thats is another reason why war is different these days, everyone and their mother hears about when civilians die in a battlefield. Back in the day, the civilian population was a legitimate target. People now days seem to encourage war sometimes but they want a cleaner less destructive war. War is war, people die if you don't want that then don't want war.

Honestly, while I do not condone the actions of terrorists or any oragnizations that are similar to them - guerrilla warfare as a whole is the only way they can fight an enemy that has such massive resources and backing behind them. If you were in their shoes, would you want to charge at tanks and large numbers of heavily-armed troops wearing a t-shirt that says "I'm a terrorist!" and an ak-47, if you're lucky?

The "wars" of today are far different from those in the past, but people are still people. They will still fight for what they think is right, using whatever means are necessary. War is, and has always been, a brutal thing.

Not to be a backseat mod, but watch out getting too political in these forums. It's probably best to keep the comparisons limited to tactical considerations, not political correctness or the morality of soldiers hiding amongst civilian populations. Just some friendly advice, you guys seem to have low post counts and might not be familar with the forum policies. :)

No I agree. I was just kinda in a sour mood and distracted.

But the post count doesn't always tell the complete story. Some of us have been here a long long time but just never felt like posting much.;)
