Greetings,

I am new to this game and I have a question for you. I have a decent experience with clan-based play and I am willing to enter a new community for this game. The confusing thing for me is "Realism" clans. I have never ecountered this term before and I am wondering what does it include, what exactly does a realism clan do? My greatest thanks,

Scharfmann.

They're people who pretend to be from units that fought in the war. They hold medal awarding ceremonies and stuff and have names like [6.wSS]Heir Schmid. German realism clans will also do the salute and heil call, and stuff, though they of course won't admit that on these forums.
There are people who genuinely pretend to be members of the SS.

Welcome to the forums,

Generally the RO community has a drastically wide variety of different types of Clans/Units

Those can be from the Relaxed gaming clans right up to the Historically minded Realism Units. But for someone who is looking to enter the community there is no shortedge of good groups of guys who enjoy playing no matter what their preference.

The answer to you question about realism. Most Realism Units chose to portray a Historical Unit and use period tactics/ranks/commands. On the other hand there are Tactical Realism Units, which use real-life tactics to form a cohesive combat group.

Hope this helps and Good luck finding a finding a good unit

Regards,
Colton Berg

they practice cyber pushups to build cyber strength, and do marching practice.

In all seriousness though, realism clans on DH, for example 29thID, the various SS clans etc, do 'realism' 1 life, unlimited map time battles, where basically the tactic is for the attacking force to AFK in spawn for several hours to make the defenders bored, and then attack sneakily at one point whilst the defenders are to bored to be paying any attention.
i'm not joking, Hours.

Hi,

TR (Tactical Realism) is a style of playing the game and has nothing to do with how a clan is run. I've been in some TR clan, some are military run style, others, runs within a cummunity of leaders without any ranks, that like this style of playing a FPS game.

You will find most of TR server with some rules, like no bunny hop (jumping to avoid fire), no run&gun (shootng from the hip like Rambo), no blind nades (spam nades), etc. You have to take care of you life like in real life. With MODS you can change the game like when you jump from a balcony, you will break you ankle, etc...

Take a look at our website : http://tb-clan.org/ we are a non military style clan, with only mature adults. Average age, is aroun 40 I think....

I've never understood "Realism" squads/clans/battalions or whatever. I came from a pretty serious operation flashpoint squad and we had medals and awards and meetings to see if someone got promoted or talk about things we should do.

But the most important thing was playing the game EFFICIENTLY and having a fun challenging time. Now, in ArmA 1 and 2 this is not the case. I've joined plenty of clans and people insist on playing games where they have unlimited lives, plenty of resources like tanks and helicopters, missions with 10 objectives with only 10 or 20 guys in each objective to kill whilst they have 20 or 30 more players.

Due to the limitations of how much can happen in one game its 200% unlikely you will be engaged by surprise outside of the objective yet these squads tell you to "Watch your sector". This is when it becomes a pretend-pretend game. It makes me feel like a child. The whole point of these "Realistic" tactics and movement for a squad gets completely nullified by the mission design.

-

Now, whilst it might not be realistic for a town to have 900 guys and a superior air tank naval force. It sure is fun to engage it and the most effective way to engage it will be to use some sort of realistic or innovative (not exploitative!) team work.

Moving on though, I found my time in ArmA 1-2 hoping around some clans and a lot of people wish they were what they are not. In one mission I played it took 1 1/2 hours to get to the first engagement because of bad leadership and bad discipline from infantry and pilots. To be a squad leader you need to be quick on deciding what to do. You need to say things as simple and short as possible. This wasn't the case for 95% of squad leaders.

Long story short. I quickly realised that the world of warcraft rule was pretty much invoked in that. It doesn't matter what your skill set is in many of these squads. It was who you know. "I am friend of X guy so I am important person #2 - ie squad leader or pilot".

Chain of command
Realism tactics and gameplay(1 life per objective kinda like countdown, no bunny hopping, some hud options disabled, no one man tanking)
Sometimes awards and such but usually those are optional. Also with RO1 there was a couple attempts on a realistic campaign. With ro2 it should be easier to do with the player count being a lot higher.

Not to be confused with Realism servers which is just a server with settings that is more 'hardcore', for want of a better expression. Reduced HUD / help and quicker death type thing.

Currently we are reorganizing, we are atm a small community

We play mostly realism games such as BF2 PR, Arma 2, and other games like this.

If you want to check us out head over to gibthis.com

I heard some realism clanmembers only play wintermaps in the winter.
They prefer to play these snowy maps on a frosty snowy day windows
wide open, wind in the hair and fingers so stiff they hardly can touch the keyboard.
Some realismmembers recently started the Stalingrad diet.
So they can play the maps situated in the final days of the battle the way it
was ment.

Can someone confirm this?

I really hope this is a troll, because I have the impression you're one of those pubbers who will go onto a realism server, insult the people who run it for "playing realism in a video gaem lol", and generally act like an elitist ***.

I'm a co-founder of a German realism unit, and I find it highly insulting that you make such a blanket statement about the political views of such units. Not only is it ignorant and one-sided (I almost never see such criticism of Soviet units on these boards), but as a liberal person, I'm sick of people like you generalizing us all as a bunch of neo-fascists.

realism clans you say?

i think this explains it

‪29th ID - Commission of 2Lt. Theel‬‏ - YouTube

LOL. Please do not use that as an example for ALL realism units. I have no clue why some people like the 2nd poster are so hostile towards us. Realism units are just people genuinely interested ww2 and the daily life of the average soldier, and we use true-to-life ranks, and battlefield tactics. We don't do Push-Ups or Sieg heil when we enter the game LOL. Also, if your so against realism why do you play RO? why not play CoD if Realistic gameplay is a laughable concept to you?

Regards.

LOL epic........sad thing is that some do go to those extremes :(

but, that's just a small minority of realism units.......aside from one or two units, i've never really encountered any other units that go way too far with things. as some others from the realism community have already explained, it's groups of players who typically like to follow historical military command structure, use historically accurate tactics and play the game as "realistic" to how war was really fought.

I dont know why some of these people in these realism clans, get up from there computer, go to the gym every day for 3 months, run down to the enlistment center and sign up for the real deal. That means that they can role play 24/7 and have no one messing with there fun.

Actually I do go to the gym and a U.S. Army veteran. Since I have tried to be monogamous multiple times, I gave up and just like sleeping around with chicks (probably because relationships mean no sex and massive amounts of drama and zero logical thinking on her part), taking my jet ski out to the lake with the buddies and playing games. This is when I have time and not working as a boring paralegal working my way up to a high payed Risk Manager, which I should get after I obtain my Masters.

Nothing against realism units - but note that the realism that RO aims for (according to the devs) is tactical realism. The sort of planning and strategy many clans (historically realistic or not) try to aim for. This is what RO is, and this is what Black Ops/MW is lacking.

Historical realism on the other hand - is a different kind. This is what the person you quoted was referring too. He may enjoy the tactical realism of RO - but not care much for the historical realism groups.

Personally I'd just like to play with a casual group of people with little to no drama - couldn't care less whether they aimed for historical realism or not. But if one group catches my interest I'll go with that flow
