Don't get me wrong i would absolutely love to see it, I just don't know how much work it is. So its hard for me to say whether or not it would be worth it for me.

My only problem with pushing state-of-the-art graphics is that the game will undoubtedly need to appeal to a wide range of hardware. While I generally enjoy and have the priviledge of playing with full effects on, many purposely play with as few special effects as possible so they may have every advantage possible. That is why in many fps games, clans used to impose fps caps and played with virtually no visual effects (smoke, etc) in clan matches. Having the ability to have that disparity in a public competitive online game, in my experience, has almost always led to a disgruntled faction of the playing populace and often a division among the player base.

It wasn't a huge problem in ROOST. In large part, I think that could be contributed to the limited options available to tweak and the "different" player base attracted to ROOST (as opposed to the very large and broad base of the more generic crosshaired, speed junky, matchbox playing player base of other fps games)

At the very least I'd suggest little splatters on horizontal surfaces, instead of the rain drops just disappearing. Also the aforementioned soundeffect for rain on your helmet. Maybe if your model is wearing a fur hat it can go "plat plat plat" instead of "tink tink tink" :D

I could see a heavy rain effect on a map built specifically for lots of CQC being cool.

On the other hand, by and large people seem to want longer engagement distances, not shorter ones.

Rain and snow would be lovely on applicable maps. I'd imagine it would reduce view distance alittle, but then if the map design favours such, then i don't see any problem with it.
