Hi guys I got a question for any available dev around on the forums.

My question is will RO2 going to take an advantage of dual GPU's or is it going to be single only...

If it uses dual then I can go ahead and purchase the combo from new egg that has ATI Sapphire 5970 and AMD x6 1090t for $663,

but if it will be only using single GPU,than I'll be purchasing the ATI 6970 which is lil cheaper.

The UE3 engine is set up for multiple cores by default, and all other UE3 engines games make use of them, so i think you can safely go for the dual (or even a quad).

EDIT: Ohhh wait.. you're talking about GPU's and not CPU's, sorry, it's early.

I don't think SLI/Crossfire is dependant on the game at all actually, it should work with any game as it is your drivers and not the game that's responsible for distributing the workload, so you should be fine with that bundle.

go for quad
I already have a quad amd 965..... didnt needed the 6 cores right away but was figuring if i get this combo for $663 and sell my amd 965 and ati 5770 for $200,then it would set me around $463.I thought this 2 new items will set me for good future gaming, perhaps 5-6 years more till I build new PC.

Not a dev for twi, obviously, but this is not a game specific issue, per se.

That is, with the exception of certain corner cases, any game can take advantage of multiple GPUs automatically, it requires nothing intrinsic of the game.

What it does require is a proper 'profile' for the game to provide information for the driver on the type of multi-gpu processing to be done (split, alternate, etc.) and optimisation hints.

The GPU core vendors may add such profiles for non-mainstream games on their own, or the dev/pub can submit a request for inclusion along with game specific details on preferred modes, and of course, one can create their own profile if needed. At least one GPU OEM is actually providing a service where profiles for new games are available from them before the reference drivers have 'official' profiles.

Hope that clarifies / helps.

Is there a laptop in the range of 400 GBP that can reasonably run RO2?

For gaming on a laptop look primarily at the videocard in it. In general from what i've seen MSI offers the cheapest gaming laptops.

I guess when it comes to dual GPU's since I can only do ATI on my mobo,it all depends how good are the drivers for that perticular game you want to play.

What pussels me is that the 5xxx series sometimes worked with some games in crossfire and sometimes they didnt, for example people were complaining that never got any FPS boost in BC2 if they went crossfire or just bought dual GPU.....

now on the other hand the new ATI 6xxx from the benchmarks it says that they scale in crossfire amazingly, almost giving you the full double performance unlike the 5xxx people only saw boost up to 20-30% max..

This scaling seems nice and all,but if the scaling works good at benchmarks for crunching high scores and numbers I wonder how will the drivers fork for ingame situation, also the 5xxx series are famous for lots of artifatcts and faulty 2D crashes.....so far the 6xxx series look like they dont have this issues,I might just wait couple more months and see if I will go with the 5970 or the 6970,anyways the 5970 has only 20% boost over the 6970 cause its a dual GPU.

I found this for 500 GBP. Is this realistic for RO2?

CPU and Memory:
  • Intel Core i3 330M.
  • 2.13GHz processor speed.
  • 4GB DDR3 RAM memory.
  • 500GB SATA hard drive.
Display features:
  • 15.6in display.
  • Resolution 1366 x 768 pixels.
DVD optical drives:
  • Dual layer.
Graphics:
  • nVIDIA GeForce GT 325M graphics card with 1GB memory.

Don't buy dual video cards unless you love throwing money away. Unfortunately this is the truth you need to realize.

You pay 200% for an extra 20-30%. Save your money and buy a better single gpu card. This has always been the best bet, and will be until the technology allows for two cards to be utilized properly.

than I guess the single 6970 is better bet over the dual 5970,cheaper too...

You should be able to find something better for that money when your goal is gaming.

Try to aim for a class 1 card or a top class 2 card (if possible aim for something with gddr5)

Actually one 5970 appears better than one 6970.... at least right now.

I don't support ATI, because they don't really sponsor many tournaments, nvidia sponsors tons of tournaments and lans.

But yes, one good card is always a wiser buy than 2 mediocre cards.

Actually, the GTX 580 scales almost 100%, so it's slowly becoming less of a waste of money.

High end cards are in general a waste of money anyway.
Mid range cards offer a superior performance/cost ratio.
