i think it is good for gameplay when all mgs are hipfireable.
what do you think would have done a soldier in real life, if a enemy was flanking him and showed up exact before him. You think he would grab for his pistol ?

(sorry for wrong gramatik and english)

His covering teammates would've taken the enemy out.

Perhaps when your in "assault mode" you can't move. In other words, when standing and you hit the IS key, you go to assault mode, but can't keep the weapon forward when you move.

Once you try to move, you automatically pull back the weapon. Ideally this would also happen if you spun too far either left or right. A steady stance to allow firing from a "hipped" position wouldn't allow you to really pivot your feet much less walk.

This topic has been discussed many times over on the old forums and quite a bit here as well, I would guess that the devs will keep that decision to themselves until the release of Ostfront and suprise us all, but as far as I can tell there will be no assault firing with the MG42.
I remember one of those discussions, I'll see if I can find the link. I was all for hipping the '42, but I eventually talked myself around to leaving the system as is, '34 for assault, and '42 for firepower.

Leaving out what's actually going to be in game, I second Mormegil's idea, I think that's tops.

Edit:
Well, that was surprisingly easy to find.......

I think they should leave it as it is, or take away hipfire abilities for all MGs. They're support weapons and are meant to be used in that role. I'm not really bothered if you could do it in real life, point is it was hardly done in real life. I know there's even a section in the MG-42 field manual devoted to assault firing, but it's just not what the MG-42 is about. It's an excellent support weapon and should remain just that.
I dunno how rare it was in real life, but games are different. Battles can last for hours, days, months, but a battle in RO is much shorter than that, so there will be more situations where the MG will need to hipshoot. Don't forget that RO is also much smaller scaled compared to real war.

Anyways, I think that if every MG has it, then the MG-42 should have it. I like RO for being one of the WW2 games not being watered down, but I feel it is watered down in this area.

True, and when looking over Mormegil's idea I really, really like it a lot. Perhaps make the MG-34 and DP-27 fire-able on the move, and the MG-42 only from a stationary position?

Ok well in DoD, you get mega recoil whilst hip-firing the 42. Your pace is completely slowed down, and it even takes time speeding up again after firing. People dont really exploit this like they used it in pre-source versions 1.1/1.2 so I cant see peeps really owning hard doing it in RO?

In manuals you only ever see soldiers in the standing position, leaning slightly forward when showing off the assualt capabilities of the gun, so its quite realistic to have it implemented IMO.

Imo realistic or not it's unecessary...
I think you need to play MG more often then. Whenever I think about the DP28, the first thing that comes to my mind is the DP28 in hipped position, ready to pwn :D.

@RedStorm: I'm happy with that as long as I can move while the MG42 is hipped, but not being fired.

Well if it's like anything in Battlefield: 2, I think it should only be kept stationary, even though it is possible to fire while standing.

If what people say about the MG42 being more accurate than the MG34 is true IRL, then why is the MG42 so damn inaccurate in the mod, while the MG34 is pinpoint accurate?

The first shot may be acurate .... Then you have 1200 rounds per minute of recoil ...

I'm inviting you to the |Ez25| server so I can prove the opposite.

Tbh, the massive spread is due to its ROF. But for kills over any decent range like on DieWalkure, the mg34 should be weapon of choice (probably due to its ROF again)
