I've been looking and researching, but I can't find anything except for extremely simple stuff.

How do yall go about creating camoflauge patterns? Especially something like the SS dot camo. I found an awesome camo generator for Photoshop, but it gives me nothing like SS dot camo or anything near flecktarn.

So do yall use some kind of fractal generator or other pattern generator and use some photoshop magic on it, or do yall paint things by hand or even find patterns and trace some of the finer details and photoshop stuff?

Im kinda in a rut, because I can't get historically correct patterns.

PS- this is a little of topic, but if someone can point me in the direction of a digital camo tutorial, that would be extremely helpful (already searched the ins and outs of google).

Well, I understand that there will be multiple layers and stacking of effects and filters, as well as macropatterns and micropatterns, but most of my trouble was not from the effects to get it to look like hat material, but rather getting the pattern itself.

It looks like you used the cloud filter to get that pattern, but what about something like this.

or this

and lastly

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Buntfarbenmuster_31_(Splittertarn).jpg

on the first two, how do I get the highlight of the dots and blobs (repectively). Do I just take the layer I made that part of the pattern in, duplicated it, scale it, then adjust it with opacity and such?

How do I even get those dot shapes in the second? Just by using the custom shape tool? Is there not way to generate it randomly on the camo, or would I just need to look at multiple references and place them as best I can? How do I get all thos subtle dot shapes (that differ from the plain ovals), just by hand?

On the third one, is there a filter that'll turn smooth clouds (filter) into those angular shapes? How do I go about getting all those lines, by brush or that artistic filter?

And all of that brings me to flecktarn, its like the SS camo, but its huge splotches of those dots and such. Is there no standard technique for getting that or is it all by hand and careful attention to work?
