I just don't understand why it kicked me a while ago. Suddenly my screen freezed for 2 seconds and then i got the PB message. No explanation at all

We're still working on issues with PunkBuster. This was our first chance to really turn it on for everyone, so we knew some issues were going to pop up. As has been pointed out, if it becomes a real issue for a number of people, server admins will turn it off. We're working hard to make sure that doesn't happen, but at least you have a backup plan, right? =)

I'm glad you guys are looking into this. Punkbuster kicked me from a match this afternoon. Except for a great killstreak, I really wasn't doing anything wrong.

YES! THANK YOU! PB & VAC!
PB takes PICTURE ON WHAT YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN LOOK LIKE! :D

As a former Admin from a Battlefield 2 server.
I seen this countless time.
Thanks to PB almost running a cheat free server

PB sucks. Sadly though, it does decently and is kinda a necessary evil. PB sucks, VAC sucks, but hey, it's better than nothing!

What sucks about VAC?

Is VAC not largely reliant upon repeated "signatures" over time more or less? As I understand it, it wont ban a cheater then and there, but it will log it, meaning the cheater still has time where he can still cheat. It will get them eventually, yea, but still. Or am I completely thinking of something else here?

Best anti cheat is a well admin'd server.

Yeah, VAC does mass bans but it can take a while, Punkbuster is quicker and on an individual basis. Combine both of those with an active admin and cheaters can't do very much.

Punkbuster stops most of my friends playing because it randomly kicks you all the time even though you've installed it fine from the game :S Frigging could never play one of the battlefield games or Joint Operations because of it.

Just use VAC, it's a bigger incentive not to cheat because you don't want your other VAC protected games to be impacted. Also on the PC we have admins to do punkbusters job anyways.

QFT!

PB is like DRM, it does nothing to stop determined cheats but can and will get in the way of most legitimate players enjoyment from time to time.

Yes it stops casual cheats and PBBans helps spread the word, but still the determined cheats are laughing as their paid hacks are not going to be detected :(

But no, it won't ruin the experience, it will just infuriate people as it has always done in the past :)

I believe it was posted there will be stages of Punkbuster activation and that will be a server's choice to use it or not. Nothing wrong with having more options.

Punkbuster's client side screenshot is the best way to catch hackers anyways. Old America's Army 2 days, Punkbuster's screenshot was the undeniable proof.

Choice is always good and I am glad the PB works, but it likes to kick me at random at least once a day :/

Today it complained that it was unable to update... in the middle of a map while playing the game when it probably shouldn't be updating! And then I kept playing on a server for a few more maps without it kicking me again (luckily). I'd love it if PB would NOT kick so many people for problems with PB itself.

Punkbuster just kicked me from a game when the area I was in, became a protected area. How stupid is that?

Punkbuster is great when it works. This is the pre-release version, so give it time. I've never had a problem with PB in released games, and I remember in all the years I played AA2 I never had a problem with PB.

In case this is not obvious to people, the reason why VAC have a delayed ban is pretty simple:

To ban as many cheaters as possible before they find out their hack is detected.

Here's a scenario withOUT delay ban:

1. VAC updates and now detect hack X.
2. Hacker Y playing with hack X gets instantly banned.
3. Hacker Y reports that hack X is detected, thus hackers stop using hack X for a while.
4. Hack X gets updated in a few hours and is now again undetected.
5. Hackers rejoice as only 1 or a couple of guys had to take it for the team.

Scenario WITH delay ban:

1. VAC updates and now detect hack X.
2. Hacker Y knows nothing of it and keeps playing with hack X.
3. Hacker Z joins, his friends join, and so on so forth all playing with hack X.
4. VAC finally release the ban hammer on all flagged, essentially creating an anti-cheat monster-kill/ludicrous kill nailing as many hackers as possible.
5. Hacker Y/Z/ELSE cries like babies and many have to buy new cd keys to play again.

That would be good if the banned players couldn't play again but as soon as the bans are issued they update the hack, buy a new cd key for cheap and cheat again for weeks. So we have to deal with the cheaters for weeks and they are back in the game within 24-48 hours after they get banned.

Lot of the bigger hackers are already paying $20+ a month for the cheats, do you think they care about buying a cd key every now and then.

So, if they get banned by PB the hackers will never be able to come back in?
Whow, can't wait to play this game cheat free :D

I'm sorry, but this should be obvious too, they WANT people to be able to buy another CD-KEY and play again, pretty obvious.

I'm pretty sure valve have made a lot of money on cheaters in their various games rebuying keys.
