PunkBuster will ruin the experience

its a observation that ive made over the last 10 years of being around game forums that support punkbuster

i dont think you guys know who bad the cheaters are
RO1 does not have the player count to really seal cheats and make money for them
RO2 could see them numbers and get more attention from cheat makers

we are VERY LUCKY to have PBbans ... punkbuster is really pretty weak without it

and the cheaters hate that community ban list

I think this was addressed by a lot of other people in this thread.

My understanding is that TWI is working with the PB devs to make a version optimized for a Steam game. There will also be VAC, and the AC functions will be optional for servers, so if there happens to be a problem it can be turned off.

In my experience with PB it will kick you for having some very common programs running like fraps.

Lol not a problem, TWI have stated that it was a requirement for them for it to work with steam otherwise they wouldn't include it.

The only time that punkbuster is a problem is if you don't have admin rights to the windows account you are playing in. And if you're a kid play on the family computer, you just have to ask mommy and daddy to come fix it for you.

Either that or you are a completely paranoid computer user who is running a while suite of worthless anti virus and firewalls, and frankly if you're running those you have no room to complain about punkbuster, as AV's and Firewalls almost always are FAR more invasive and resource consuming than any anti cheat ever devised.

Get admin status on your machine (if yer using vista or 7), turn off user account control, and tone down the death grip windows defender and 3rd party software has on your machines "security" and you'll never know pb is there.

punkbuster is fine with me, the only game in wich i had troubles with it was bf2 (okay not vanilla bf2 project reality) it gave me some heartattacks i think in the time back in i think 0.8 or something

Fenix is completely right. Punkbuster ruined most of my Battlefield 2 experience, doing random kicks and discriminating location. Is that fair? I don't think so. Also, why do yo even want to use it when its easier VAC?

i don't see how an optional system gets so much vitriol from people. if you want to play without anti-cheat, then do so. i would much prefer a little inconvenience (not that i have had any) to being overrun with cheaters.

ever play on a non-PunkBuster enabled CoD4 server during its heyday? it was impossible to spawn without getting zapped.

MW2 G18 pistol turned automatic grenade launchers? no PunkBuster in the game....

These things have already been answered, there shouldnt be problems like that.

I don't blame people for being extremely wary...punk buster has been pretty goddamn awful at times.....kicking for no reason...glitchiness requiring manual updates....services that run when you arent even playing games..etc..

Punkbuster isn't that bad. All these years it's been around it has been in some random occasions where I had to take some minor actions to get things straight. Annoying things but so rare they're hardly worth of mentioning.

If you hate cheaters then you will love the fact that RO2 will have Punkbuster along with PBBans real time banning AND announcements on your server who has been globally banned while playing the game. It's a great feature.

I rather deal with the few problems and fixes of those anti-cheats then having a server full of cheaters.
