I saw the FR MultiTeams server running Univermag and it did fill up. Sadly I joined too late but in this case after the custom map finished the server emptied quickly. I am sure there is room for a custom map server (or mixed). Let it be in Classic mode please though.

I wish the 40-1 server would add some custom maps into rotation. It is mostly the same core group and I am sure most of us there won't mind the download. The return of the TOGA server would make my day as well.

Yeah this is the only server I play on (named as TooL) and I'd love some custom maps to be added to the rotation, I'm quite bored of all the current maps.

The problem we have now with custom maps is that they are pretty hard to implement because they require a very powerful computer. So the maps would need a simpler process to be made in order for them to be more popular.

I have spoken to some map modders from Red orchestra and they said that making a map for Ro 2 consumes more computer resources than it did in Ostfront. That was what I meant. Maybe it will run like a stock map or smoother but is harder to make a map in Red orchestra 2, much harder than in Ostfront.

What you ment is that it requires more computer power to make a map and it requires a different approach, but hell why should this make excisting custom content less popular.

Man I really get lost now and then in this community.....

Turns around wallk to wall and start to bump head multiple times against the wall......

The fact is that it was the custom maps that provided such longevity to RO1/DH. While the map sizes seem to have increased tenfold, really compared to when RO1 came out bandwidth has increased equally (give or take). Is it really so painful to wait a minute before playing?

I'd go so far as to say the lack of maps is the main issue with RO2 right now. A sprinkle of custom maps running on servers would go an awful long way.

Yeah I will.

Been thinking. There are quite a lot 64 player servers they are loaded everyday.
They only run stock maps. Obvious the players on these servers just join to have a good game and they don't mind or simply don't know about custom maps.
We might ask the server admins to post announcements they are planning to add custom maps on a specific date and ask players to download these custom maps. This might be better then adding them without any announcement as this will desert the server.

I might need help to approach these server admins. Maybe Tripwire can post something like a request as custom maps will add bonus content for free.

I don't know anything else which could save community made content....

I'd like to suggest that all custom maps, mutators and mods be submitted to TWI for approval and release through steam...

The current confusion and difficulty for the users in acquiring the custom maps and of course, the hassle Admins are suffering in making the maps available. When doing so, Admins watching their servers empty on the spot when a custom map comes up is atrocious.

The best remedy I see is TWI distributing "certified reliable" maps, etc., through Steam so everyone gets them with ease.

The main problem is that this is an age were attention is at demand, not information and entertainment. There is so much of the latter two, why should they 'waste' time on downloading anything? When their time is precious.

When they new players get bored by the current stock maps, they will either stop playing or demand new maps. Thereby creating demand for new maps, by the quality of the maps they are willing to play is unknown...

Im so sick of the stock maps. But im also sick of joining a server that runs a custom map and only three players on it and the rest dump bots. Its a shame that every server with custom maps has bots enabled. I prefer playing 3vs3 instead slaughtering down some dump bots. I hope more of the full classic servers uploading some nice fresh amazing custom maps. Im sick of this tunnelmaps like barracks, apartments, grainelevator etc.

Why not link RO2 custom maps to the Steam Workshop?
This seems like the best option to me. Someone joins a server running a custom map, Steam recognizes it on the Workshop, and downloads it for you instead of through a server redirect.

As would the above suggestion only with TWI's blessing.

Guys, with the latest patch NS2 implemented custom map downloading through Steam Workshop. If an indie team can implement it in a week or so it would take Tripwire probably a few days.

As long as whether to download the maps from Steam or not, is optional for everybody, then it this should be encouraged.

The Steam Workshop seems to be a good solution. Maybe in the future TWI will support a community map pack.

In the meantime it is up to the admins whether to include custom maps.
I would also like to encourage them to introduce a custom map to the people on the server and let them know that it is worth downloading even the whole 100 MB (which really is not much nowadays).
Or that admins with really busy servers bring a new map in on a weekend when it is really busy anyway, call it a custom weekend!

I think the main problem is that most people are unaware of the custom maps and their potential plus poor population on the servers running them. @Mike Nomad: We are in your and your fellows hands!
