Public demo of version 1.4c has been released, so people can play again.
It is a downloadable version of the game, as of now torrent-only.
People who have bought the game will receive updates as soon as the online counterpart has been fixed, amongst which is a class system with traits in 1.5.
The demo will apparently remain 1.4c with an occasional update here and there.

You paid for that game. I don't consider that pirating. Straight up stealing a game with no intention of ever paying for it.. actually, even if you intend to pay for it, you pirate/download it, but then decide you dont like it and then never pay for it, that's just straight up stealing. I know I'm sounding like the 'goody-two-shoes' but that's how I see it.

I mainly started when they stopped making demo's.
Use it in that way either, if I like it I buy it straight away.

I know it's not nice, but they should hand out more demo's:rolleyes:

But pirating a game like this is a no-go.
Seriously. By now the developers have been forced to release a game version twice before they were ready.
If they had had their way, nobody would even know about Project Zomboid yet, but one of their testers betrayed them to 4chan so all those guys could play, and so they had to release something for everybody.
Now these pirates cracked the game, put it online for free and even using their own cloud server because the cracked version is still using the auto-updater, which made them rush this demo too so again everybody could play and there would be no need for pirating. (it yet, again, when a new version comes out... bastards.)

It's weird how many setbacks these guys have had to endure by now, it's ridiculous. And these pirates only make it worse.

Not really. Everyone who had pre-ordered it could play the alpha/demo. It wasn't like they wanted to keep the game a secret, it was promoted already at some forums.

It was actually at first meant to be released to everyone as a demo and the pre-orders would receive additional updated until the full release so they aren't to far away from their initial plans. I do hope they have better luck in the future.

But still I can get sued, get convicted and as a result have to pay 50 000 000 (fifty million) dollars to the company involved for causing them that kind of loss of money and live the rest of my life in debt :rolleyes:

Aside from the interesting pirating opinions.

I tried the demo yesterday, however the game doesn't explain everything very well.
For example, I have food, how do I eat it? I managed to get it in my active items (top slot - upper left on the screen) but I am unable to find the use button (tried the while keyboard and mouse).
Also I have sheets and managed to get 8x thinner sheets. But I am unable to put it around the leg of the woman.
I guess these aren't demo restrictions:D

So I immediately put the game aside while it still sounds like a really nice game.

To eat you have to open up your character status window and drag the food onto your mouth. To bandage Kate you have to click the bandages in your inventory and then click on her. From memory both of those are covered in the tutorial messages, although I have to say they aren't very clear or handled very well. For example, once you board up your house you aren't (or weren't, I don't know if they had time to change it before this piracy mess happened) told how to de-board it - click on the hammer in your inventory / hand, and then click on the boards.

Or, more simply, to eat you can drag food onto the heart icon, which opens your body overview, and it will be consumed directly.
This was the only thing i had a problem to understand and is not explained, the others i think i remember were mentioned somewhere, like how to undo a barricaded door.
As for the dressing of Kate's wound simply select the bandages, click on Kate. Same thing goes for painkillers.

I just want to be clear. To me the line in the sand (other than price, DRM, ect..) is making the dev house foot the bill for your resource use. It could be EA or someone else and it would still be in the same ball park to me. If you're going to pirate, you don't force a legitimate company to pay your costs.

If a pirated game managed to force the Steam clouds to update, it'd be the same thing. The fact it's happening to Indiestone is not only wrong, but because of their situation, it's also quite tragic. It would be wrong to do it to EA or Valve in my book...but arguably not as tragic. I still wouldn't do it in either case.

Put another way. If you were to drive around with your wifi in a service area where people are billed by the gig....and you start pirating games through their connection that also draw on the company's cloud, that's stealing twice.

It's funny, i got trapped in my safehouse with zombies pouring in from both entrances and coming up the stairs and into the bedroom. I expected them to just go for me, and i had accepted my fate and was preparing for my last moments on Earth.
But then i saw some of them were going after Kate, and this ofcourse could not be allowed :D
It made me fight harder, and sustaining several bites and scratches i managed to fight off the horde, with Kate uninjured.
Fearing zombification, i went outside, boarded up the house with it's supplies so nobody could get to her, and went off into town for a final killing frenzy.
I would leave my life behind on the pavement of a small suburb, and Kate would be alone forever, but i'd be truely damned if i wasn't going to make something pay for it.

I don't think Kate can be killed other than by pillow. I let some zombies follow me into the room with Kate in it and they just crowd around the bed but they can't kill her. So now I don't feel bad about leaving Kate.

I plan on making as many molotovs as possible to fight the horde head on. It seems they all spawn in one big cluster at random locations on the map. I managed to make one molotov and than threw it on the horde then the game crashed.
