Project Steampunk: Gearing up for 'RO2'

Hi all, you may remember me from such addons as Carpathian Crosses.;)

We ex-CCers (meaning myself, Karma, Greenhell and a few others) are developing a mod of UT3 called Project Steampunk: Conduct of War.

You can see the basic concept on our webbie. The idea is to submit an entry to the later stages of the Make Something Unreal competition and, in so doing, develop our skills on UE3.

This will put us in a perfect position in terms of skillset when 'RO2', or whatever it is called, is announced and released. Please bear in mind, however, that one of the main definitions of our various gameplay ideas is, 'Not like RO'.

So if you want an introduction to the world of UE3 mapping, coding and modelling etc. and are serious about committing your time to develop something which will look great in your portfolio then apply on our forums. There is not much to see in the public area yet but, if you regster and apply, there is some detailed discussion of the plans and work so far in the dev section.





At the moment we need:
  • Coders
  • Concept and interface artists
  • Animators
  • Modellers
  • Texture artists
  • Level Designers
We need experience and/or commitment - if you are serious and think you have the skills to contribute then we will be happy to hear from you.

olol, Joni posted a link to me today over at the Beyond Unreal forums. Seems like an interesting idea, I am sure most of the current RO modders will be getting involved in a UE3 project sooner or later. :)

This sounds like an awesome idea. I used to do a lot of steampunk based roleplaying.

I think the last great Steampunk based video game I played was Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura so it's about time we had a new one.

i don't understand anything lol, what exactly will it be about?
an fps in 18th century-ish environment but with futuristic weapons and features? something like bioshock?

Concept and interface artists

I can provide concept art, done by hand (i.e pencil and paper). I tend to have a lot of spare time and I can often knock out a drawing in an evening.

However, next week I shall be going to Nigeria next wednesday for four weeks so although I will be able to work there it will taske me longer.

If that sounds good and you're interested I'll contact you on your forums.

I think you guys need to fill this thread with some inspirational pictures.

Are you thinking of a gametype where you can assemble and then use that giant-spider thing from that horrible Wild West movie with Will Smith? That could be interesting if you had 4 sides fighting and they each could build a slightly different looking creature that shot fire and killed things and stomped on people and had lots of gears and fire and you killed it by shooting anti-coal into the coal reactor.

At the moment we have a couple of concept artists gearing up so that we can give everyone a good idea of the world we are talking about.

I also have some interest from well-known figures in the community re mapping, coding etc. I do not want to say more until these people are confirmed as 'on board' but things are definitely on their way - in the meantime here are some of the first passes of our guy, Rudeone:

No-one is being paid for this although the aim is that a core team of our devs will be entrants into the make something unreal competition.

At the moment we prolly have enough LD's to be honest. Coders and animators and people that know stuff about UT3's physics are what is needed.
