Damn something makes me play this again and again. I start to kinda understand the weapon behaviour, in fact I already got 5 kills in one round :D While I still think there's much they should optimize(not at least many stuff that is like it is because of BF2 engine), this just has something that makes me come back. I think it's the fact that you're always in a squad and you're not 24/7 in action like in other games(CoD for example) which seems much more realistic.

In fact I was playing Operation Baracuda today on the chinese side and we(awesome squad) were digging in a few positions back where the enemy was supposed to be soon. I mean which other FPS actually offers the possibility to build various AA/MG-positions, blockades etc.

Definitely takes time until you learn to value this though.

Alright so I'm considering buying BF2 solely for this game... worth it? How big is the community?

How does the gameplay compare to RO/Operation Flashpoint and games of that ilk?

I played BF2142 and enjoyed it, but it got old pretty fast (in like a few months)... whereas I've been playing RO for nigh on two years now.

Well how much does that copy of BF2 you are planning to buy cost?

As for the gameplay, well I'd say it's more like OFP if not even more realistic(or maybe like OFP MP which I never played), because you are basically among your squadmates 24/7, really have to act tactically if you want to stay alive. Atmosphere is top-notch, not at least because you aren't in combat all the time. For example I was playing some Iraqi city map once as Marine, and there was always 2 choppers flying the squads from A to B(those transport guys are humans as well who do this, sometimes theres even their own transpot squads), you get a fascinating view of the city until you drop close to the action. That just feels incredibly realistic and atmosphere is really awesome. But you really have to play in a squad, and especcially if the squad leader is an experienced gamer(sometimes it even feels like they were or are real soldiers which is very well possible) who uses VoIP as well and knows what he does it's just great. Weapon behaviour can take some time to get used to but after some time you'll undertand that you have to aim very carefully and only take single shots if you really wanna hit something.

actually the only reason to buy BF2 is just to play this mod...its that good..however, dont forget Forgotten Hope 2..another free mod for BF2 that covers desert warfare in ww2.....so in essence, you get two great games for the purchase of one lousy game......

Do a lot of people still play Forgotten Hope 2 though?

If RO had a similar squad system like project reality it would be more organized.

Ya but... gameplay styles are totally different. In RO you have realistic ballistics and smaller maps. In PR you have huge maps and unrealistic (intentionally) ballistics. Your accuracy in PR is determined by how long you have your weapon still, while scoping a target, maxing out at 9 seconds. It's to simulate actual warfare where it's not all headshots and such. Firefights in PR last a lot longer than they do in RO.

I say RO stay as RO and PR stay as PR, they both have their strengths and weaknesses. I know I get pissed off when I have a perfect shot at someone 100 meters away and miss because I only waited 2 seconds instead of 5 before firing :p.

Added code that prevents players from using enemy kits other than rifleman variants indefinitely (rifleman, rifleman specialist, rifleman at, rifleman ap). It gives a message for 15-20 seconds (enough time to get ammo/field dressings), then it blacks out the screen for 15 seconds more after which it kills the player if he doesn't drop it.
This is terrible in my opinion.

I dont see why. Would a random "insurgent", possibly some kid who just got out of college in Syria or whatever to go on Jihad, know how to use an American 203 grenadier kit? They might be able to figure it out, but they would be very very ineffective with it.

At first I was dismayed too to see that change but now it makes sense to me (someone made the same argument to me that I'm making to you :D)

I'll miss finding a SAW and using it against their own forces, but I think I'll get used to it after awhile. Maybe this will reduce incidents of friendly fire as well.
