I dont want to sound like a total retard but what are brushes? Are that the boxes and stuff that you make in the editor?

BSP brushes are basically the old school way of mapping (hl1 etc..)
You can, in UDK create this type of brushes easily, making squares rounds etc... as opposed to statis meshes, which are what you are doing :)

BSP Brushes isn't very good for performances and shouldn't be used too much.
That is why I find it odd that there a lot of brushes in all the TWI maps.

brushes are good for blocking out a map but shouldn't be used in the final version. Meshes are much more efficient.

How big map can you make in RO:HOS? I think you guys should make big maps so it would really feel like a stalingrad.

For example you could put together: - Barrikady Depot (Purple) - Barrikady Stockyard (Yellow)

Or:
- Barrikady Workhall 6a (Red)
- Barrikady Workhall 4 (Green)
- Barrikady South Eastern Workhalls (Teal)

Or all of them.
What you think?

I didn't try but I think that would be quite simple, all you have to do is enable various spawn points volumes and I *think* they should all appear in the spawn menu. Like on some maps you can choose between two different spawn points, all the map is doing is some simple logic ie. Map Start Enable Initial Spawn point -> Objective captured? -YES> Enable other spawn point etc...

What was the amount/disposition of armor at the Barrikady factory, and to be included in your series of maps?

The description mentions the Russian 84th Tank Brigade with its T-34s. I would assume the German 576/577/578th Gren.Regiments from the 305th Inf.Division would've predominently utilized StuGs (one of which was visible in the combat footage). Also judging from the description, I'm guessing that the 14th Panzer Division stayed back in Dzerhezinski while the 305th made the assault, considerably limiting the number of conventional panzers for the Germans.

More insight would be awesome. ;)

I love panzers and was pretty sad to see the limited inclusion among the main game, considering the level of detail they possess. I know armor wouldn't have been concentrated in any great-deal inside the city proper, resulting in big armor engagements. It's just that I had a mental orgasm when I tried a Panzer 4 for the first time (seeing the crew communicate to each other and all the other little details of immersion) I would just kill to see more than two/four tanks duking it out at a time. It just seems Tripwire put so much work into something that is exhibited in such small amounts.

But, again, I realize the Barrikady was where infantry made the battle.

The combat footage also showcased what looked like 8.8cm Flak (might be some other kind of artillery) bombarding the complex. How neat would it be to see fully-crewed artillery pieces in the game, operating just like the tanks where you can switch between crew-members, have crew members become casualties, etc. I hope Tripwire or the modding community can eventually make stuff like that possible.

But how about making a spawn"point" on SL? I mean on the map when you can choose a flag where you want to respawn. Vanilla doesn't have it.

Well from my understanding, the spawn on SL thing is different and doesn't use the Spawn volume that the regular spawns uses but rather the mapper has to lay down single spawn spots accross the map and depending on the SL position in relation to these spawn spots then players can respawn there, so basically having it as a selectable point on the map wouldn't be possible.

I may sound like a megalomaniac but what about making the WHOLE Barrikady Gun Factory in 1 map?

It might be possible if you don't mind playing with a framerate of 0.25 FPS :D

Why not just make it one gigantic map? RO needs a return to it's roots of huge maps with huge engagement distances.

I get 60+ fps even on the biggest maps, bet I could hold 40 on a gigantic one.
