I think, at the end of the day, friendly fire is always going to occur. There might be a rambo still behind enemy lines who you shoot, a russian "hero of stalingrad" is often confused and shot if coming round a corner.

At long distance i just try to check my map as much as possible, but even then bad things happen. I usually don't mind if I get shot by a friendly, it's just grenades which annoy me...

If I'm not sure whether it's a friend or a foe, I sometimes check with the binoculars if my position is secure enough. In other cases I advice not to take the shot.

Mistakes are mistakes and normally forgivable, nut sometimes... I play assault myself, meaning I am normally up close to the enemy. This sometimes means I have to fight my way through a wave or two which is a blend of luck, good timing and reflects. This takes hard work and is enjoyable.

What I don

That makes me very sad because gunning down your assault teams is the most counterproductive, teaming damaging thing you can do

I slightly disagree with you here - killing your MG operator is the "most counterproductive, teaming damaging thing you can do", cause this person needs a lot of time and effort to take a good position from which he could support his team and deny areas to the enemy and killing him means that you no longer have a support there and also you've opened an area for the enemy, but also this means that most of the time this person will have a very hard time or won't be able at all to come back there.
Also about TK's - pls ppl try not walk in front friendlies who are in position - walking in front a friendly who has his wpn ready to fire and waiting for an enemy to show up is not a wise thing to do, because in the same second you decided to cross there might be enemy ready to be killed by him.

hahaha this x1000

I hate it when I'm prone and laying down suppressive fire and someone decides it's a good idea to plant his foot in front of my MG's muzzle.

I will typically apologize for these TK's but it is
Followed by a friendly reminder not to walk in front of a MG.
This even occurs while I am actively shooting.

This, all of this.

i had the same player run infront of the mounted mg position about 3-4 meters away, about 3 times in a row when i was spraying away like a mad man at the germans. every single time i said dont run infront of my MG when i am firing
What made it even worse that he was going over the voice chat in some scouse (liverpool accent (****ty english accent(for you foreigners out there)))
complaining about how i was team killing, but o well. rant over. :)

but mostly identifying enemies at a distance is just map knowledge as soon as you know where they come from ect, its all easy.

The direction they are moving helps a little, but you'd want to double check in chat or on the map first. The way they sprint is quite a big give-away, the Germans run with the gun in one hand, and the Russians with the gun in both hands. Although, if they have a pistol or grenade out... :X

A lot of it comes down to learning where enemies are most likely to be, and where friendlies are going to be as well.

Such is the way of fog-of-war, you shouldn't be so hard on yourself. :p

To add to this, if at a distance, one uniform is lighter than the other, the darker uniform is German and the lighter one is Russian.... but depending on lighting, this isn't a sure fire way of identification.

Germans are usually dark green or dark grey.... Russians are usually tan or light green.

See if this helps:

^ I play at a higher resolution these days, but was the only decent shot I had in my library for use as an example. You should be able to see that the Russians are more of a tan/brown while the Germans have a Green look to their uniforms.

Bah, never mind, Photobucket compressed the image down a bit more, so I don't know if you can see anything from the above.... here's the original:

When in doubt, shoot!

Nah just kidding, try to identify him quickly always before shooting. Helmet, clothing, silhouette, color of that silhoutte, weapons, weapon sound, running method, voices, position, rotation, direction he's going to, overall position of your team, and check the map how the situation is.

That's the key things I'm following and it works for me.

Hello! This is my first post so please go easy on me. I'm new to this game, and glad I discovered it as I've got a great interest in WW2 and this shooter ticks all the boxes of a realistic game, so far.

The only problem I've had is team killing. Not being killed by my own team, as I easily forgive, it must be an easy mistake, but when I kill one of my own, I curse myself! Now I've become a fairly competent shot with the Russian rifle, I've always known it as the mosin nagant but I believe it's called something different in game. At close range I'm fine with picking off enemies. But on large maps I struggle to make the decision whether someone is a friendly or not, and the chances turn out that I wait too long and get shot, or take the shot myself and get a satisfying enemy kill. What I ask is this, has anyone got any advice on how to distinguish the enemy at a distance? The only zoom option I have available us when I hold my breath with the weapon but that's all. I know the difference in uniforms is a clear winner to this question but at a distance in the fog or snow its quite difficult, especially on long maps like mamayev kugagen (apologies if that's split wrong)

Many thanks,

Smithy

Smithy,

- Use scope. (teamleader TL and squadleader SL have it)
- Watch your map. Check green and blue running points on your map. If you don't see green or blue point, shoot.

I wish you fun in game.

It is called situation awareness. The standard if it moves shoot it and apoligize is getting old. Once on an assault my main fear is getting shot by my own folks, I know where the enemy is, but my human team mates are more interested in kills than any form of strategy.

Don't know how many times I get a good overwatch position as a marksman, and I get shot by my own folks who just shoot at whatever moves in front of them, then apoligize. I will even state over voice, I am here, doing this, check your fires, and still bang, sorry bout that.

There are so many 'tells' of who is who, who moves how, who looks like what that friendly fire at less than 150m is inexcusable. Like in real combat, when in doubt, call it out, takes a second to confirm your target, and that second will not change the game.
