This map takes place in the last phase of the Battle of Odessa in 1941. Romanian and German forces have fought for weeks on end to arrive in the city itself. While the second Russian defense line (which lay just outside the city of Odessa) Collapsed a mass evacuation was put in effect. Surrounded on all sides the only escape route was the sea, which was well covered by the soviet navy. The city itself would take 74 days to capture, while Russian infantry served as a rearguard for the evacuees. A breakthrough attempt by two dozen infantry supported tanks was initially successful but soon broken up and destroyed by German air support. In all an estimated 350,000 soldiers and civilians would avoid capture thanks to the actions of the last defenders of Odessa. Because of this it was awarded the title of 'Hero City'

Overview

This will be an infantry only, urban map. Wide open streets, industrial areas and parks will mostly favor long range rifle combat. The Soviet side will have lower reinforcements given that by this time the majority of the Russian Army has escaped. The Romanians must capture 6 objectives all the while wearing down the remaining Russians. The Romanians were given German engineers to help clear roadblocks and fortified positions, which will be represented in this map. The Russian side will be a mixture of standard uniforms as well as a few of the new naval player models since the Russian navy was heavily involved in the evacuation process.

I have a lot of texturing work on a half dozen meshes I made left to do. And as well a ton of minor details, such as the blending that funky looking water somehow. Should be less then a week until I release beta 1. Big thanks to Lruce for making great textures/meshes and of course the whole Carpathian Crosses team for the great new content!

Looks great, but one thing is puzzling me, whats with that one door leading to nowhere on the right building in the first screen cap?

Looks great, maybe there could be more destruction though? I don't know much about the Battle of Odessa but I'm sure, like most other cities, it bore the brunt of a fair few artillery and air bombings.

Please, if you name your map with real location's name, at least try to make it look as in RL.. I mean, that's not a black coast, that's a Baltic's coast.

I had no problems with your Moscow map (I'm talking about historical correctness), but I feel very connected with Black Sea and Crymea.

What are the defining points which make it look like the Baltic Coast? I'm not trying to disprove you I'm just interested.

Probably because it makes use of a lot of Riga Docks assets? On the other hand Lruce had stated that the design of Riga Docks wasn't necessarily Baltic, if I recall correctly.

What I have shown is only a small portion of the map. The rest is going to be urban Odessa. I have a lot of source photographs and in the end it should look very convincing visually. Just to help separate it from the stock map Odessa I have created a lot of new building facade meshes (see third screen) which take a lot of work using 1 sided bsp planes :p

Anyway I guess you will have to see to believe, so be patient and don't go calling it A-historical just yet

Get that FT-17 off the map.

Other than that it looks good, although the Romanians wern't so SMG heavy to be alloted 6, maybe 3-4 would be better...

Also the Romanians had sappers, don't really need to make them German.

From what I read the Romanians fighting inside the city had an attached regiment of German sappers. Really is just an excuse to use two armies fighting together which is a very cool and unique feature of Carpathian Crosses.

Red brick has never been a major feature of Odessa - at the moment it looks a bit like Manchester-sur-la-mer. Maybe you could alter the textures of the dock buildings to something a bit closer to this....

obviously, being a dock, they would be quite scuffed but almost certainly not dark red brick.

FT-17s were kept in Bucharest, I think - afaik the only combat they saw was against the Germans after Romania switched.
