I never play medic much at all. I feel me and my friend do a good enough job at keeping the team well-healed, as well as making damn sure that nobody gets hit too badly in the first place. And a medic isn't always that useful sometimes, I feel... If there's an immediate assload of zeds on my face and I had a choice between a medic or a well-kitted combat perk of any sort (except maybe sharp/firebug for this particular case), I'd take the combatants, and have them heal me!
In mostly-friends games, we always have super-quick healing gangbangs, restoring us all to full/near-full health in seconds, and we're all ready for combat again. A medic is cool to have even in a well-coordinated game and is indeed a great benefit, but I feel that a medic is only really necessary when there's lots of lapses going on, otherwise the lack of a medic is easily compensated for.
My fave classes? Commando and Support. I like to save people, really. If someone's got a big threat on them, I want to be the one to remove it if I can. I kill a little bit less as commando sometimes, because I'm busy being in the back/middle to make sure nobody gets attacked by ninja-zeds, as well as laying down fire in holdouts. With support, however, I like to direct all my fire to the front, preferably in a critical chokepoint, where I can queue up zeds nicely.
