ppsh40 vs ppsh41 vs ppsh43

PPSH40 - Slower Fire Rate, less acurate IMO
PPSH41 - Best IMO this baby fires out rounds in a straight round if you can steady it.
PPS43 - smaller clip, accurate as hell though.

PPD40 and PPSh41are pretty close so I'll compare them first.
PPD Pros - smooth shooting, nice highly visible unhooded front sight, a little more controllable on full auto than PPSh due to somewhat lower rate of fire. Looks cool, lots of wood. Big magazine. Cons- doesn't shoot as fast as PPSh; probably not enough to make a difference unless you're trying to sweep a room full of fascists at point blank range and then the extra rpms of the PPSh are comforting.
PPSh Pros - Fastest cyclic rate of any SMG in the game; the sound alone strikes fear into your enemy. Loaded with historical panache. Hooded front sight if you like sight hoods. Big magazine. Cons - Fast cyclic rate makes control difficult, especially from unsupported standing position. Hooded front sight if you don't like sight hoods.
PPS43 Pros (compared to the PPD and PPSh) - Lower rate of fire makes it easier to control in full auto firing. Can chug out bursts of longer duration (but fewer rounds fired) with relative accuracy from the hip. Feels a lot more like the MP40 so you don't need a totally different skill set to use German and Russian SMGs. Looks cool in a minimalist, industrial sort of way. Cons - Doesn't shoot as fast as the PPD and PPSh. Magazines hold half as many rounds.

PPD40 is not at all more accurate or even controllable than the PPSh in my opinion.
Sure the PPSh41 has a more forceful vertical recoil than the PPD40, but in my experience (and this applied to the mod too) it has much more horizontal recoil. By that I mean that the PPD40 seems to fly wildly off to one side or another more than any other automatic in the game. With the exception of rested fire (where all the automatics are deadly) I can fire much more accurate bursts out of the PPSh41 than I can with the PPD40 from any position, standing, crouched or prone.
I rate the Russian SMG's this way;
1. PPSh41: High capacity, high rate of fire, suprisingly good accuracy when used correctly. Excellent from the hip up close with the trigger down and good for a little distance when fired in bursts. Looks mean, sounds terrifying, an utter classic of the era.
2. PPS43: good rate of fire, good accuracy, easily controllable, downright exceptional from the hip whether up close or at a little distance, only handicapped by it's small magazine size.
3 PPD40: High capacity, good rate of fire, shithouse sights, only decent accuracy. About the same from the hip as the PPSh41, but lacking that little extra bit of grunt in the firing rate. It really is pointless to even bother using this gun when you have the option of the PPSh41.

PPD40 is fine. In fact, on any map with longer than close range combat, I'll take it over the PPSH41, because it is MUCH more controllable. The PPS43 is good too, but it frustrates me how inaccurate single shots seem to be. Then again, I think the same of all the Russian SMGs.

PPD40's is something to be feared when rested properly! but i sometimes like to use the 43 cause recoil tends to go straight up cause it doesnt use the drum...(i think!), it's just a good all-rounder really, good from the hip, reasonable rate of fire. never really use the 41 that much so i cant comment on it.

Since I play as german 98% of the time I can't really say, but always when I killed a russkie with a PPSh41, I sure as hell take it.(Love/Hate the sound it makes)
I almost always prefer the PPD40 over the PPSh41 because I find the sights are easier for me to use, and it's more controllable. Firing at short, to mid, even long range in short bursts, it is probably one of my favourite weapons to use. I haven't really used the PPs43 but it looks pretty cool so I'll try it sometime and get back to you.

Better sights, more controllable, don't waste as much ammo, the reasons are countless. Its better than the PPSH41 in almost every way. The only advantage the PPSH41 has is a higher ROF, which in turn lowers the control so its not much of advantage.

PPD-40: In my opinion it's ugly as ****. I hate the open sights too. But I find it more accurate.
PPSh-41:I find it to be better than the PPD. If you can really move your mouse down while crouched you can be dead on. Plus its rate of fire is great. I like the closed sites, and it looks less ugly than the PPD.
PPS-43: I use this whenever it's availible. It's got a good rate of fire, very controllable despite its smaller ammo capacity. Considered by some to be the best SMG of WWII also.

I find PPSh 41 better for long range SMG sniping for some reason but medium to short range PPS 43 is better IMO.
