We need a debug option to disable decals to test if it fixes it. :)
wonder if anyone has tried disableing the decals from showing in the games files? i know i played around with making more show and for longer. never gave any thought to getting rid of them alltogether.
i'd be checking that out, but i'm not having the stutter, so it wouldn't help you guys.

Well, if you direct me to where I can find out how to do this, I'd definitely try it out and post the results.

there's two lines you can try. max bullet decals and bullet impact decal time limit.
there in common/Red Orchestra2/ROGame/config/default game/ in the Rogame.ROPlayerController section. about fifty or sixty lines down into that section. make sure you write down the values before you change them, so you can change them back later.
if you set them both to 0, i'm pretty sure that will get rid of them.
i'm no good at messing with this stuff though. it might be another folder in the config that needs to be changed to get the disired results. if you feel uncomfortable about it, wait till someone woth more knowledge messing with these files comes along and confirms these are what we want.
when i get back from work this afternoon, i think i'll play with them, myself.

It's in ROgame.ini. Look for:
MaxBulletImpactDecals=10
BulletImpactDecalLifetime=5.000000

Don't set MaxBulletImpactDecals to 0, because that means unlimited.

In some cases the default of those settings are used. Those can be found in defaultgame.ini.

:eek: thanks for correcting me, Ducky!
i'm gonna play around with it and see what happens. maybe i can make the stutter happen for me by cranking up the decals (or is that cranking down?) ;) say set them to one or two and then zero if that doesn't trigger anything wierd.

I actually wasn't correcting you. You did not yet submit your reply when I started to write my post. You were (are) faster than this (slow) Duck ;)

can you post the path to it for me? :eek: i'll edit my post with the directions and files to play with after i test it out. thanks!

Hi,

regarding the decals: for me they seem to show up randomly. Sometimes I can see them and sometimes not. The same for bullet casings being eject from weapons. I don't think it is related to the stutter though.
Maybe it's worth testing, I don't know.

:eek: yeah. i was looking right at them! the path i posted earlier was the right one.
i now have my decals set to 100 and the time set to 2 minutes. (didn't try setting decals to 0 yet.) a huge jump from stock setings! sure looks cool with all those holes showing in the walls and stuff. i still need to test this on a server with people playing. will update this post later.

I get this with the Avt. Very annoiyng, but, it only happens on the first two bursts of fire. Any consequente burst after that suffers no stutter. Odd.

Anyway, bump for fixing!

I have the same problem, with MG or SMG, but only on the first shot freezes for not even a second, but is enough to die.
Is there a fix to that please?
Thanks

Edit: in a empty server i have no problems with this, only in full servers.

I tried setting these values to 3 and 1 respectively. I had to turn read-only on to prevent the game from resetting them to default values. This had no impact on my performance.

I actually have this problem as well and it was never found at to what caused the problem. I just learned to deal with it and or avoid them all together plus the stutter is only for like a split second but it does cause death.

Strangely the PPSh(also the bi-pod mg34/avt) dont lag when playing against 64 bots(which take up a lot more resources than playing against real players):confused::confused::confused:.

I believe this is a sound issue. Setting my soundcard to 22050hz considerably reduced the prominence of the lag (though it was still there, and lower sample rates than 22khz crash RO2 preventing further testing.)

This makes sense because this happens only on guns with looping firing sounds (this doesn't happen on the semi-auto mode for PPSh / AVT / MG34; further reinforcing the argument because these modes always use non-looping sounds.)

Looping sounds require more memory and processing because they need a little program that tells them where the loop restarts, and the size of the sound will be much larger (esp. at higher sample rates.) This is why changing the sample rate to lower on your sound card will have an effect on performance (infact my frames went up in general hinting at something else wrong with the game); but it is not quite enough to resolve the issue.

Hopefully this will help TWI further investigate. Perhaps when the game is set to client-side, loop firing or loop releasing sounds are not held in memory and it causes a stutter whenever the sound has to play.

it is because of sound. that's what the thread is about. what do you have the sound set to in the games option panel?
