Okay, this may sound silly, but hear me out. I would never put real money onto an online poker site. If I'm playing for real money I prefer to be able to sit across from my opponents and actually see them. My friends and I have a weekly Friday night poker get-together in which we play for real money. I'm not promoting gambling here, but free-play as you will see.

So, with that said, I would like to tell anyone interested in playing poker online about a really nice site I think you should try. It's called CarbonPoker. Here is a link to download the client - http://www.carbonpoker.com/download.html

There are several reasons I like Carbon Poker..
The client is very small and light. It's an easy download and install.
You arent required to put any money in it in order to play.
The site gives you $5,000 'play money' you can use in tourneys that will potentially pay you real money.
They have what are called Freeroll tournaments every 4 hours which are free to play, and they pay out real money. They have $50, $100 and up Freeroll tourneys including Satallite Freerolls as well.
There is only like 4,200 people playing on the site at any given time (so far that I've seen). It's nice when the player count is small. You get to know how people play.
The players in Carbon Poker are from all over the world (Netherlands, Germany, Israel, Trinidad and Tobago, Slovakia, Romania, the UK etc.). Very international player base makes it cool to me :)
The interface is very clean and easy to use.

They also have what are called Fun Steps which is what I play in-between Freeroll tournaments. Fun Steps are free and work like this..

Fun Step 1 is a 10 player no-limit hold'em tourney where everyone starts with 1,000 in chips. The top three winners of that table each win a coupon to the Fun Step 2 table.

The Fun Step 2 table is set up the same but only the top 2 players will each win a coupon to the Fun Step 3 table. If you come in third on a Step 2 table you win another Step 2 coupon.

The Fun Step 3 table is set up the same as the prior two tables, however the winner of the Fun Step 3 table wins a $1. The second place player wins a Step 3 coupon, and the third place winner wins a Step 2 coupon.

The 5,000 in play money can be 'topped up' so you never really run out of play money, which is cool. You can only play 10 Fun Step 1 tables per 24 hour period.

Now, I know, big deal only a dollar, but people really play hard to win this so it is actually quite fun. You can add up dollar winnings and take them onto the real money tables if you please. I've had a friend start with nothing, and after some time made some coin.

It's definately worth the download. Lots of fun if you like the game of poker. They also have other types of cards on there if hold'em isnt your thing. My CarbonPoker name is HansLanda - feel free to add me as a friend and we can jump on a table together.
