I love the game, aside from performance issues I think it's amazing. As a RO veteran, I appreciate the improvements that have been made on the franchise, but there is one in particular I feel is completely unnecessary and dampens the experience.

Spawning on your squad leader doesn't encourage team work, the foundations for a "heavy team based shooter" just aren't there, so spawning on the squad leader comes off as a cheap gimmick and is used not to help out your team, but to save yourself 20-30 seconds of walking and running.

In a fast paced game like BF, this is a good addition as the moment you spawn you can run and find cover if need be. Red Orchestra is not the same sort of game. 9/10 if you spawn on your SL, he's likely taking cover somewhere leaving you completely open to enemy fire. Not to mention it just looks terrible when a guy pops up out of nowhere in the middle of a battlefield.

So please TW, I urge you to completely scrap this feature both in realistic and standard modes.

If you agree with more or not, please feel free to post your own opinion on this function and vote!

i can never get that thing to work.

clicking to spawn on squad leader has ALWAYS 100% of the time just prolonged my time in limbo and then drops me off at spawn 1. even when my squad leader is still alive.

also, i haven't seen anyone 'pop out of nowhere' in my ~20 hours played. i have noticed that when one guy sneaks into your headquarters he can soon multiply like an amoeba - but i've never seen it happen, ergo they must be going into cover automatically.

To early for me to tell I just want to see how it will play out when good teams use it will it be too overpowered?.When 6 or more really good players spawn into a capzone how that would effect another good team.

It would ruin a perimeter defence then again it would make a SL a must kill target ...time will tell.Atm I never use it hardly 90% of the time my SL is farther away from the capzone than the spawn that's really annoying:mad:.

I love it. I usually play as Squad Leader and sometimes it really makes you feel like your in a prolonged continous battle for some specific landmark, and you feel like you're actually gaining a foothold, instead of just individual people dripping into a battle area. When people use it and it works, it works great.

But mostly people don't use it, hardly anyone joins a squad. This has been discussed a lot before, though. I don't know if most people on the pub servers don't know how it works or don't care.

I really love it. It need tweaking but it is really good for playing with friend in the same squad and attacking the flanks or rear of the enemy.

I voted yes. It should be off, at least on realism servers. I'm not in the beta, can anyone tell me if there is an option to turn it off server side?

Although I have seen people popping out for good, I think it's a great feature. Yes, you can see it in games like the Bf-series and no, it's not realistic. But (and there's always a but) it improves the gameplay and teamwork and puts it to a whole new level.

Is it realistic that there are 20 soldiers on each team crawling alone through the bushes? I don't care if this is "pure realism hurr". It simply improves teamplay alot because there are less "lost one-man armies" running around.
For me this is more important for a "feel of realism" than sometimes have to see a guy popping put out of nowhere.

Server admins can turn off this feature but it is enabled under the realism defaults which probably should be changed.

So to disable it you need to move off the realism default to custom and when you do this, your server loses the 'Realism' sever badge from the server browser list. This even though your server may have exactly the same settings but more hardcore because you have spawn on SL disabled.

So probably for the realism default spawn on SL should be disabled.

Note on it not appearing to work - Your SL needs to be alive when you actually spawn and not when you hit the Ready button. If they die between when you hit Ready and your actual spawn, you will go to Spawn 1. Well that is my experience of it.

SL don't bloody die when i want to spawn on you is what I always say !

While I cen certainly see it being off putting in terms of seeing an enemy pop up before your eyes, or the potential for one infiltrator turning into many, I think it's included simply as a means of keeping squads together in order to promote teamwork. I'll not speak to the realism aspect of it simply because there is only so far one can go with realism in a game and I don't feel like getting into it.

That said, I'm not sure what I think of the feature yet. I'll admit that I almost never use it, but the few times I have my results have been mixed. Sometimes I'll spawn seemingly in the crosshairs of a sniper, other times not so much.

Spawning on squad leader works, it's just that there's no visual confirmation when your squad leader under supressive fire, which means that you can not spawn on him.

*click spawn on squad leader*

*spawn 120m away*

NOPE!

It hasn't been used much at all in the games I've played so far, so it isn't effecting gameplay much right now. I do fear somewhat for the future though... especially the one person inexplicably multiplying into 6 people situation. In RO1, a lot of defensive battles worked on the principles of the majority "holding the line" and cutting off reinforcements, while a few others cleaned up the few that got through. Such tactics seem to be quite realistic. When people eventually figure out SL spawning, I'm afraid such battles won't happen anymore. Time will tell. At least it's good that it's a server option.

I like lead spawn BUT it should only be possible over objectives because I see sometimes some squad leader camping near enemy starting spawn and it is absolute hell to get ride of them when the squad spawn on him.

In that case it's lot of time lost being killed at spawn and trying to kill them meanwhile their team can cap objective and then map is lost.

Which is what happens when you are not allowed to spawn on your squad leader due to supressive fire, it will automatically pick you a new spawn point.

I spawn on SLs all the time.. and when I play SL, I notice people spawning on me as well. I think it's a great mechanic that simulates leadership... without being able to spawn on SLs squads would essentially be useless. What would be the point of even being in a squad if you were never with them? Basically the only thing that would remain is that the TL would be able to command squads toward certain objectives.

Squads would get withered down in the first few minutes of a round, and then they would become completely displaced for the rest of the map, with absolutely no incentive to work together or cover each other.

I agree that sometimes men randomly appear around you.. but I think the pros outweigh the cons on this one.

As-is a SL can flank and if he stays alive then he can do some serious damage with a flanking maneuver, whereas without the spawn-on-SL mechanic, he would steadily become lonelier and lonelier.

Remember: both sides get this! The idea is that people will continue to spawn right into the action.. makes for a much more intense experience and gets people up to the front quicker. SLs have serious responsibility to NOT DIE, and use smoke to lead a charge with their men.

All of that being said... it's pretty obvious that this isn't going away.
