Actually, welding requirement for support is worse. Requires you to participate in some boring camp games.

I went up ~2 Support levels for welding just by doing a solo game, killing everything but one clot, and welded a door on it. Angled the edge of my keyboard on the mouse button so that I'd weld indefinitely, turned the monitor off, and went to sleep.

Woke up, shoom. Lots and lots of weld points.

:p

I just hit Shift+Tab and let my character welding for a couple of hours. Now i have over 400.000 points and i do not need to weld doors when i do not have to and i will level when i do the damage.

I do not grind damage because it is BORING!

Yes, i grinded 250 Stalkers, but i played 3 Long games on Server with disabled Perks, without knowing it, and my kills and damage where not counted...

I'm don't make an obsession out of levelling but I must say, I'm now a lvl4 commando and it's been a smooth ride, both metrics are still very close to each other.

Also, I'm running this game on linux with opengl so I usually kills Stalkers before anyone could see them :) (because they're always visible)

The fact that you are tempted to do that is a testament to how bad it is.

It is, because unlike healing, excessive welding can result in your team getting trapped and eliminated.

Of course syringing a teammates who has 95 health in the middle of a wave is not a good idea either, but if you have common sense, you will wait until they actually need your healing.

I just played every perk until I knew what I was doing (level 3 on every perk minimum) and then I went into a perk leveling server on HoE difficulty.
It might be cheap, but for Commando and Support, I think that you can be a little lenient about it.

I would beg to differ, Commandos can mean the difference between being overrun and wiping and being able to control an area, or push through small enemy clumps as a pointman when kiting.
on hard and above yes, on normal and below the commando becomes much less useful to the team. a single shot from a hunting shotgun can clear a room faster. even off perk in a medics hands it can trash clear more effectively than low level commandos

i'd rather have a healing focused medic on beginner or normal over a commando.

I play because i like the rifles.
May i ask what you think will make this Class more useful? In my opinion more realistic rifle damage would do.

it's just one of those right place right time things, likewise i dont start games on demolitions. the class is too hard early game to get the money situation sorted. instead i start as firebug with it's cheap flaregun and switch over at round 6-7 to bankroll my m32 and mk23 backup.

not all perks are useful on all difficulties. commando is less useful than the other 6 classes on beginner and normal. they'll still have the highest kill counts, but mostly at the expense of the other perks levelling and learning the skills required. meanwhile their own progression and learning curve is hampered as ammunition is plentiful, cash flows freely, and their trash killing weapons are useful on everything.

i have a mate who solely decided on commando for the AK, we were too succesful on normal so we decided now everyone had hit lvl3 perks we'd tackle hard. no matter how often i told him not too he'd still rage fleshpounds with his AK. i would tell him constantly not to attack anything taller than himself. and in general he is quite good at FPS. but everytime he see's the fleshpounds he attacks them...gets steamrolled... then ragequits because "they 're bull****, they shouldn't be able to one hit kill you like that!"

this is probably a side issue to the main topic but commando is fine how it is. if anything it should somehow do less damage to the bigguns at all difficulties to discourage bad habits forming at beginner and normal. and the tab scoreboard should stop listing kill counts. commando is where the killcounts are and those who treat the game as a competition will probably gravitate to the class.

Leveling commando to level 6 was a long task for me (before TWI whitelisted all maps) and back then it felt like a real achievement, now people can just spam stalker spawns and do them in no time at all.

So in the sense that people can farm them if they are that desperate *sigh* it's fine?

Hey I never said the weld grind was enjoyable. :p And excessive welding in an MP game is not really a good tactic most of the time so you're kinda screwed for options.

Bad players will be bad player.
I play on Normal an i have seen people totally lacking teamwork spirit, and some just go camp at the spawn points, getting surrounded and dying, and when i tell them to go camp at a "safe" place, they react like: "Tis is not CoD you moron! Camping is for stupid."
In that case, after i have tried to explain them that this is a teamwork game, i usually prove my point.

In my opinion, the Commando and all the other classes need realistic weapons.
In terms of damage, this means 65 damage fro SCAR and 70 for FAL, while the Bullpup and the M4 should do 35.
Yes, you are not supposed to engage the Big ZEDs, but sometimes you have to assist the team or draw a ZEDs attention before it mauls your teammates to death.

Now, about those who treat the game as competition, many do it to level their perks, and others are just used to see games this way. Even the golden guys.

70 Damage for the FAL because of barrel length? That's understandeable. Though I doubt people would be into that, it currently isn't much more of anything than the SCAR.
But i totally think the scoreboard should be redone. No kill list. Just list them by alphabetical order or something. I'll admit that just seeing the kill list urges me to compete. I usually don't but I don't even want the pressure there; I don't care who is killing the most.

Yes. The Medic has a gun similar to Kel-Tec RFB, which has the same barrel length as the FAL and it also uses FAL magazines and ammo and does 70 damage.

But first, they have to fix the double-shot bug. Yes! It is a damn bug! Two rounds are fired simultaneously even in ZED-time.

I agree about the scoreboard.
In a Co-Op game it should say essential stuff, like health, Armour and distance from you and maybe what each player does, like welding, firing, chatting, guarding, idle, etc...

Oh my dog I forgot about the RFB. That thing is ballsome. Course I suppose that the M7 could have just gotten a lil meta damage boost to make up for low rate of fire.
Or maybe it uses magical horzine-brand zilver bullets

I think that it will be alright if they make the magazine hold 20 rounds, which is the normal capacity for the FAL magazines the RFB/M7 uses.

I do not mind that it is semi-only. 7.62 NATO rifles are better used in semi-only anyway.

My first lvl 6 was support, I had no troubles with the welding since on some maps the best thing to do is seal off a door and hold them off rather than roam or stand in the open. Commando however has taken a long time, it was sitting at lvl 3 for a long time because I was focusing on support and really didn't want ot bother hunting stalkers. I know where they spawn etc I'm no new player, but it would make much more sense to me if crawlers were included in the kills. Commando is supposed to be seeking out the stealthier nuisances, yes? I think the crawler is probably one of the hardest to spot, most annoying enemies. This isn't complaining how long it takes but I am rather saying it would make more sense to have both included in kill req.

I believe it is because the Commando is not that difficult to level.

Maybe if the Stalkers would register if killed by any gun, while playing as any class, same way that damage by, let's say, a flamethrower, is registered if you play any other class than firebug.

Yeah I'd be cool with that. It may require the actual number required to be increased so one like myself would accidently power-level comando while playing firebug. But yeah I think it should be like that so the commando still gets the kills even if he has to whip out his sidearm.
