Just FYI, there's a radio in the Eastern Farmhouse. So you don't really need to leave.

That radio is Soviet only. German NCO can only use radio in Central.

Similarly, small German radio on Basovka is German only - Soviet commander (which is my favorite role on Basovka) has to run back to command bunker to call strikes.

BTW, score whore that I am, I find that lately I prefer NCO role on most maps, on pubs, artillery or no artillery. Helps capping, and capping brings points + helps your team.

I often call ARTY. And go fight and cap objectives, I also "encourage" (force) people to attack/defend objectives, I allways use VOIP, and I use the voice commands and use rally points :p

It often works, they are like sheep! going to places that are irrelevant to victory...

I just use it to drop arty, help the inf by getting in and mixing it up when not calling in arty, and, setting rally points for the BOTs, if any. Human players on pubs tend to ignore the rally points, so, that's why I mentioned the bots. :)

Good point about the bots, if there are still any left in the server when you are playing, you can order them to do things instead of them just circling around in the spawn, and they appear to listen.

It's understandable on a public server for someone to step forward and take charge of a side, but some of the tactics these commanders use are completely worthless and/or show true incompetance. Where are these "generals" when things heat up in one sector and they're directing people to it? Some of them just like to hear themselves shout commands for the most part.

If one or two guys are communicatring and giving orders on a public server it seems most of the time a majority of guys will follow those orders..as it is the difference between victory and defeat, so keep the comms coming.

Speaking as a guy that takes the MG as much as possible, make sure you let your gunners know where you want them. And put in a word for an a sistant guner as it's good to have soemone secure the area so the gunner can get to work.

Thanks for the thread. I'll confess I didn't know gruppenfuhrer could cap faster than regular infantry until I read this thread.

My biggest problem with those classes has, speaking from a position of my ignorance, not been _my_ use of those classes. What annoys the heck out of me is when someone picks the class but doesn't use it right, e.g., German officer never using artillery on a critical map, such as Snowy_Forest. You get tired of typing v19 over and over and over.

I often play as the "leader," even when I haven't selected that class. What I have found is that if NOBODY uses VOIP on the server, then there's pretty much no way teamwork is going to happen. But it seems like as soon as two or more players start talking over VOIP, generally the rest of the players forget thier shyness and pipe in.

I think it's kind of funny how we're all too embarrassed to talk in a game where we're all anonymous! Typically I'm the most vocal guy on the server. I really like it when there are others who are willing to talk as well. IMHO, it makes the game a lot more fun, and teamwork always seems to follow.

Even if the VOIP communication is silent, I'll still call out contacts and other warnings over it. I refuse to type any more (typing death pisses me off to no end)

The Kommandir/Gruppenfuhrer role is absolutely critical on Basovka, much more so than on any other map. Artillery makes all the difference here. There are infantry maps, there are tank maps and there are combined arms maps, but Basovka is in its own category - it's an artillery map.
