Hello,

I started having this problem today. Most of my local servers are currently returning really high pings (+250) except for one or two which are normal. My connection seems fine and the servers which give me normal pings play perfectly well.

As some servers run perfectly OK, it doesn't seem to be a connection problem at my end. I also doubt that every other server is having problems. So where does this problem lie?

Any ideas?

Thank you,

M

This still happening and it's quite annoying as I now essentially have no choice in server. If it's not my end, and it's not the servers' ends; there what needs to be fixed? Any one have any ideas?

Run a few different malware/spyware apps like Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Spybot - Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware. Then do a full virus scan. If you still get nothing try looking at your network traffic to see if some app is taking up bandwidth.

Thanks for the response. I regularly scan the PC and I've checked network traffic - no problem there. The fact that some servers are OK suggests it's not a problem like that to me. If it was something wrong with my connection, all servers would be the same?

It's back again! Same thing; all servers have really high ping except for one which is normal.

This issue resolved itself for some unknown reason soon after my last post. But now its back.

Ideas?

You may want to reboot your router and modem if you have not done so recently to see if it helps. Do one at a time and retest to see if it resolves your issue.

Do you have ping issues with any other game or just KF? You may want to write down some of the server ips as well as the good one and run a trace route on them to see where the lag is being introduced. To do this go to start, run, and type cmd and hit enter; for win7 type cmd in the search box. Then in the cmd window type the command tracert followed by the ip address of the server to test. For example you would type "tracert 10.10.1.1" without the quotes to trace the route to a server at 10.10.1.1. If you see a common ip/host where lag shows up for different server ips it looks like an issue with a router in your area. In that case you just have to wait for the issue to go away.

Thanks for your response!

I'm not sure about other games as I don't play them. When I checked steam servers for CSS there did seem to be a similar problem (i.e. some servers showing as OK with most other Aussie servers with high pings), but I can't be sure as I don't know what the "normal" situation is.

Apart from the first couple of traces (all <15ms), there is nothing common between the different servers. The normal pinging server just has less hops. One thing that is common is ~100ms to "dsldevice". Is this normal?

Also, when you say reset my router and modem separately, what do you mean? I just have the one box. I've tried turning it off and back on again but I get the same problem.

dsldevice sounds like your modem/router but it should be one of the first things listed in the trace if that's what it was. If power cycling it made no difference then it's probably not causing the issue. My guess would be that it's an issue with the internet in your area. There is probably only that one server running in your local area and everything else is outside of where the problem is. So the bad news is that there probably isn't anything you can do about it but wait.

Thanks Down,

Yeah, last time it resolved itself after awhile. So this isn't something my ISP can fix?

EDIT - Resolved itself again now!
