I started playing killing floor not too long ago as a sharpshooter. It's a very fun perk, and I doubt I'll enjoy myself as much with others.
From a mechanics perspective, I'm learning a lot about how to play my original perk (SS). I can't count the times where, upon salivating at the sight of a group of clots, my battle charge is interrupted by a completely unnecessary series of head shots by my overly enthusiastic teammates, leaving my standing over a pile of limbs wondering where I went wrong. I confess that, before I played the berserker, I had no reservations about unwittingly doing this to others. Now that I have some insight into the zerker, however, I won't be making this mistake again.
Realizing the strengths of other classes seriously helps your game too. For instance, aside from the normal responsibilities of a SS, the next time I'm paired with a zerker, I know to take out the crawlers (If he doesn't have enough room to back up/drop them), and trim the herd so he doesn't have to run around everywhere.
I can only imagine the insights that will come from playing the other classes. I look forward to being able to one day relate to demolitions experts. For now I'll continue to simply avoid their end of the tunnel..
