Just don't start with the berserker or the firebug, really. All the other perks are fun and rather rapid to level for the first couple of, well, levels. Though after level 2 or so I'd suggest leaving the Commando alone.

Killing all those Stalkers is just a goddamn SLOG and unlike most of the other perks it's something you have to FOCUS on, not something that comes naturally while playing.

I recommend newbies to pick sharpshooter, commando or support specialist because those are the standard type of playing style for most FPS genre games. Demolitions and firebug are mainly for the more experienced KF players since you could get yourself killed by your own weaponry.

I would recommend leveling the sharpshooter first. If you die in wave 7 or later, it's nice to spawn with the xbow and maybe have some cash for the handcannons. Then you still have a chance against fleshpounds and scrakes. You cannot always rely on the other players having enough cash for you to gear fully up after you die.
But that's the only reason for leveling the sharpshooter first. Commando and support are more fun to play. And going berserk with the chainsaw in the two first wave really boosts the income ;)

While I agree that SS schouldn't be levelled first and foremost, the statement that it gets easily levelled within the other perks is not exactly right!

You only level SS with SS weapons, so headshots with Shotguns/Commando guns/medic gun won't level it!

Just wanted to mention this in case some new players are reading this thread and don't clearly pay attention to the requirements.

My first level 5 was Beserker. And my first level 6. Everything else was around the level 3 area. Beserker is the most fun.

Spoiler!

I still blame Commando!

First perk to max-out should be the one in which you like the weapons the most. I'd say get every perk to Rank 1, then decide which one you like the most and go with that. From there I'd say the OP has a good order, just with the chosen Perk plucked-out and placed on the top of the list.

After-all, every Perk is equally good in the sense that none of them are useless. Sure some are better than others, and there's currently some debate about Firebug in Suicidal, but as long as you're playing a perk towards its intended play-style, then you'll be a good asset to the team regardless of what you max first.

Wow, my thread took off :p

So some good ideas I've spotted in the responses so far:

There are a lot of responses saying "whichever one you like". Agreed definately. I was really looking more for "if you're playing with a purpose" though.

WhiteTigerShiro - Get everything to 1 first is a really good idea I think. That will probably build your team skills better than anything. You'll know how the other guys operate.

uk1t43 - Yeah the "core" classes: Commando, Sharpie, Support. They tend to be easier on noobs since general FPS skills carry over. They are also universally useful on all maps and with most team combinations.

The overall strategy of "get something to 5 asap" is good. Having a good starting class helps you advance every other perk. I think I went SS myself or maybe commando...this was back in the days before m14/ak/scar.

For SS: Doing SS on wave 1-2 *every* time would indeed level that perk fast while you worked on others in later waves.

For Commando: I just carried a bullpup around with me a lot when I was playing other classes...it let me grind through some of the stalker reqs.

I'd like to say get SS up to 5 first but I think that would encourage people to lean on the m14 to prop them up. I'm on the fence.

If a noob starts playing what order would you suggest they level their perks?

I'm gonna say:
SS first - Get to at least perk 2.

In terms of which perks they should level first, yes Sharpshooter is the most powerful so I guess you could say level that first, but I thought you meant a newbie that is brand new.

I was going to say play Berserker first (thought not necessarily level it) so they learn how easy it is to knife a clot.
I'm so sick of seeing newbs spam ammo fighting over a single clot kill when they could save so much money with one knife swing.

I happen to think my definitions of newb and noob are the best.

Newb: someone who is totally new to the game, one who asks questions, such as "where'd the crosshairs go?" and the like. They're not expected to know what they're doing.

Noob: some who has got high ranked perks, clocked in a few hours gameplay and most likely is a L6 SS. These guys would be playing and you would expect them to know what they're doing, but they don't. These guys choose the M14 and say that the Xbow is overpowered and the best weapon is the EBR. Other people who fall into this category are high-level commandos that use the SCAR on full-auto as their main weapon.

I love you. SCAR on Semi-Auto is intense but I suppose you could use it in bursts on Full-Auto. People who piss me off are commandos that charge Scrakes with Bull-Pup :[ or Sharp Shooters that miss that headshot on the Fleshpounds...

There's no one perk that everyone should use the moment they start playing, but there are definitely bad ones. Demo and firebug aren't exactly the most useful for everything, the weapons are massively different, and they can hurt themselves and lower the effectiveness of their team more than any other class if not played correctly.

Assuming one were to be taught that perks are not just there to give you a cool title like 'commando' (every rank 0 commando I have ever seen in the history of KF uses a lever action), and used their perk weapons, commando/medic/sharp would be the best, where support is about average. Medic to teach teamplay, sharpshooter for good habits (not everyone is smart and aims for the head..), and commando since it's so familiar to nearly every gamer. Point and click to kill; preferably near the head region. Support at level 0 is essentially a commando that functions better in hallways rather than open areas which is nice.. but they also have to weld doors. A newbie welding every single door can be a very bad thing.

TL;DR
1:Commando
2:Sharpshooter
3:Medic
4:Support

I like to pretend berserker doesn't exist.

so

Just DO start with the berserker or the firebug, really. All the other perks are NOT fun .......

Not everyone enjoys the same types of gameplay. I don't find berserker fun, so does that mean one of us has a wrong opinion?

nah man 100 ppl = 100 opinions

just saying they shouldn't exclude them and everyone should find the perk that is fun to play FOR THEM , unless they play videogame for some other reason than to have fun
