Hey,

Okay im not sure if this has been discussed in this official forum but i have been ranting about it in the steam forums ;) and i think its something that really could help the game out ALOT.

Basically we all know that seeing a level 6 perk in a normal game is quite depressing. Kills are rare for the lower level perks because the level 6 perk is noming them all.

Also my friend has just bought the game this weekend. And as me and my bros perks are pretty much all level 5+ we are resorted to playing as the medic so we dont take away most his fun because one shot from us kills pretty much everything in normal, so we just keep him alive so he can level up.

But if a Perk cap was introduced it would help so many problems.

Quite simply (this is just an example) if a level 6/5 perk joins a beginner game they would only get the perk bonus of say level 2
if they join normal they will get perk bonus level 4
and hard and suicidal they will get the perk bonus of whatever level they are.

not only could this stop high perks thumping through lower difficulty games...it also gives high perks the option to go back to lower difficulty levels, help out friends or whatever and still be challenged!

i dont know if this is an easy thing to add, but its something i think Tripwire should think about...maybe ;)

i guess this is a good concept to attract newcomers instead of making them feel useless... coz mad grinding to level 3 or 4 is just to catch up with friends would probabaly get mad annoying... sucks the fun out of hte game...

When I see a high level(5/6) in a normal- game I don't think "omg im not gonna get any kills" i think "omg useless tool alert". There's also not much of a challenge in limiting perks...i mean I could go berserker level 0 and still own up normal with guns. It's not a big deal. Perks don't really become mandatory until hard. And if they're resorting to normal at a high level, they can't be all that skilled...can't even do it for relaxation...i hate playing normal on my level 4+ perks...its so mind numbingly easy. So no.

My own personal hell
Basically my group did this by using ready-only local perks. You generally level to level 1 or 2 by the end of the first game. If offers a challenge and is easy to do (and you don't reset global perk levels). I had a blast playing a level 1 commando on normal using a bullpup and shotgun combo. It's highly reminiscent of mod gameplay.

How do you do that? What game files to access, what do you change?

if you find normal mind numbing then wouldn't you be more in favour for something like this? ;)

if the perk was capped at say level 2/3 or whatever it will always keep the lower levels challenging to a certain extent so no matter what you decide to play there will always be some kind of gaming concentration and challenge?

@benjamin - yeah i think that would be a good idea too ;)

The problem is...there isn't really a challenge on normal/easy, even when you ARE level 0. As long as you can aim, the challenge isn't there :x

Agreed.

I dont think we need to limit the level based on difficulty, there might actually be some people out there who are struggling with normal on lvl 5-6 perks, so if they were suddenly capped to 3-4 they might just stop playing :p. Or who am I to tell, I dont even play normal LOL... I like challenge so I rather play suicidal when ever there are servers with players on.

And one thing, what if you were playing Poundamonium on normal difficulty?

Still very doable...as SS at least ;)

Ha, I doubt. If you dont spawn with rifle or crossbow you are pretty much screwed :p. I actually tried playing with pistol on lvl 6 ss (since I cant choose a lvl 4...) and I died after having killed only 1 FP lol... Why? Because after I killed one, 3 fleshpounds randomly raged while I was healing and running away from those 19 chasing me, and of course I couldnt survive all of them without a body armor (probably wouldnt with an armor either).

Maybe, JUST maybe if you manage to avoid the randomly raging pounds somehow you might be able to do it but it would take ages ><.

Btw Coltie (yeh I just gave you a nickname, haha) are you American? Because I dont remmeber seeing you on any of the Hard or Suicidal servers I play on.

It's possible. If you want, when I get off work I'll record a vid of the first wave for ya :D

I'd prefer Wild or Colt, kthx ;p

Yea I am. I've only played hard online once since typically I find it frustrating to get headshots with even the smallest amount of lag, so I tend to stick to offline while playing SS and my other perks are all level 3 and below so *shrug*

EDIT: oh...I also don't use the name Wildcolt in game...as a couple others now call me around the forums I am "dirty name" or some such xD

There was a similar topic : someone wanted to let anyone play at a lower level than it is in order to play with his friends who began to play.
It must not be an obligation but it would be better for anyone to choose the level at which they want to play in order to balance the game.

indeed this is true :D ...but for some people it could be quite intimidating  ...well just a little....maybe!

as benjamin said, let it be a server option - so if you were to do a pound game you could choose if perks get capped or not. :p

lol, WITHOUT some kind of glitch/bug abusing k thanks :p

There is just no way you could do it by simply running away from the fleshpounds because they enrage randomly. The only way I can think of is shooting them a few times in head, running away behind a corner and shoot some more, welding a few doors here and ther to slow them down and so on, but that would take ages. I just tried this and once again was able to kill only 1 fleshpound until I got killed by enraged one which I failed to avoid. Not to mention I was a lvl 6 ss not lvl 4.

It's not bragging, it was proving that poundamonium could be done on normal prior to having a level 5 perk.
