People are still bitter about this game's launch.

bad launch is not an argument, look at bugfield 3, 9 months STILL ****ty, it only got more expensive and broken with every update, heck they even confirmed that the development of BF4 has already started.

Ok RO2 was kinda ultra cpu bound at launch, gameplay wasn't casual friendly enough nor hardcore enough, it crashed very often for many ppl etc, I still don't regret the 36 euros i spent over it ( discounted digital deluxe version directly from steam because i already owned RO1 )

You can't turn down an excellent WW2 tactical fps just because it was kinda broken at launch, look at killing floor or even black ops,(THAT one was virtually unplayable on release date )

about 1200~ players were online last night, It looks like a low number but i'm sure that 80% of these people really enjoy what they're doing, look forward to any official content update and trying to spread the word about how good this game is.

I feel no "external obligation" when playing RO2, I only play it because I like it so I know that my precious free time @ home will be well spent, on the other hand, 9/10 times that i launch l4d2 or bf3 its because some buddy of mine has spammed me with invitations :p

And im reading comments on other forums and websites from people saying they dont want to buy this game because of the way it launched and how its still casualized. People are all universally saying RO1 is better.

Having launched up the game a few hours ago i cant say i disagree with them ,there is still a ***** unlock system , the assault rifle is still in the game , there is no new tank maps and the tanks are still garbage. I will say its nice that you added the native voices , but that should have been enabled at launch not months after the game came out.

is there any real future to this game other than the mods?

Why grieve over something in the past. When the game was launched, despite that I had been able to play the Beta fine, the game ran with frame-rate lower than 10fps for me.

Yet I do not complain now that it works properly, I'm happily enjoying the game I paid for. Yes, I paid for it months before it managed to actually work for me, but here's a good piece of advice: judge things by how they are now, not how they were then. That's how the world works; it's really that simple.

However, there is still one thing you've said that I can't say is a ludicrous argument: yes, the MkB42(h) is still in the game, and yes, it's even in Classic mode. I personally feel that it would be wise for Tripwire to remove it from Classic, but retain it in Realism, thereby effectively compromising for both audiences.

As for DH, not that i'm bothered what they do, i always got the impression that ppl surrounding that mod were critical of Ro anyway, so it's hardly surprising for me that they are going it alone, no matter how RO2 shaped up
I guess they decided a while ago that they don't need tripwire anymore.

Indeed.... they leech off of RO and the mechanics / gameplay.... think they can do better (which imo they didn't, was a lame knock off of RO1, poorly designed maps, crude modeling & textures which were worse than what was in the original RO mods and bad gameplay mechanics, leading to me only having 2 hours of gameplay on DH which most of it was in Practice mode due to few servers) and shove a middle finger up in the air as they walk away and think they're better at something they never originally created.

JMO though, and to each their own.... I think of Darkest Hour the way I think of Mac Computers.... see previous post in other thread for that

The amount of autism in these two posts is Astounding.

Actually HATING ON a FREE MOD that increased the life-span of RO1 dramatically!

The RO2 community doesn't deserve any good mods, that's what I think.

The reason why there is no "new Darkest Hour" coming out for RO2 is that jackbootgames is developing their own stand-alone game "Festung Europa"!

No other reason for this!

All your arguments seem to be just your own thinking....
There is a Classic Mode, without the unlock system...
There are 2 Tank maps at the moment... (TE-Kursk is nearly finished)

I agree that Red Orchestra 2 can give many problems when one try to keep it up and running, but saying it's casual... I see nothing casual in it.

I am far from being bitter about launch. Pashera. It was long ago, it's past and should stay in the past. If anything I am tired when the game downloads itself time and time again asking for gigabytes to download, because of patches or when something goes wrong and I simply can't play (like right now).

I uninstalled the game to download EVERYTHING from scratch, but "suspended download" problem is still there completely cutting me off from playing (and then I'd still have to download all content for 3-4 days non stop), so I'll wait a couple of days for it to be solved on its own.

It's maintaining and delivery of the content that's annoying me, not complaints about one assault rifle, casuality(!) or game not being Red Orchestra 1.

You claim "People are all universally saying RO1 is better". Please, let me see these "all people" you mention. I'd like to check out if they are who I think they are.

Astounding?

Tired of empty servers in RO1? Get DH
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2760648

The amount of elitist dribble I see from die hard DH fans is far more astounding if you ask me..... worse even than what I see from "RO Ost Vets" in here from time to time.

The bile I seen from the limited experience I had on various servers online and how **** many server admins are towards acting like they're really in some military unit & bark orders at you or you get booted for simply playing the game.... the entire DH community made the entire experience very unwelcoming to say the least and certainly gave no appeal to stick around to bother any further.

Limited populated servers, people going into RO forums like the above to trash all over the game DH was based on and is the reason why it existed in the first place...... among piles of more examples I could provide..... we're the one's with the problem for "Hating a free Mod?"

I didn't hate DH.... I just didn't like it and wasn't impressed... if there's anything I actually hate, it's the majority of the community that came with that mod.

DH didn't extend the life of RO1 anymore than Mare Nostrum did..... in the above linked example, the guy goes on like DH has so many more available servers to play on while RO1 is dead.... yet I looked just last night and while RO1 still has dozens of servers available, I counted only two for DH.

If RO2 gets mods coming its way, I hope everybody who wants them enjoys them.... I personally couldn't care less.

I'm here to play Red Orchestra and that's what I have played since it was a mod, simply because it was what I was looking for for a long time. I'd rather see more content and more expansions given to RO2 than to see yet another mod based around another US conflict.

No offense to fellow US players in here, but I'm personally over done, sick and tired of such a small focal point in FPS's always being around the US. Yes, DH had more than just US vs Germans... but nobody played anything else but US vs. Germans and the British/Canadian models/weapons and voice overs were piss poor imo.

.... Since you asked.

Oh, you didn't ask??

Oh well.

I don't need to defend DH to someone like you, a Forum-warrior who obviously spends more time on here then ingame.
Its history speaks for itself.

RO2 on the other hand needs all the defense it can get, good thing you're here, eh Bro(ney)?

in his defense, he's not a brony... hahaha (neither am I)

imo, DH, while lacking in areas, was a great game that improve on RO1 (mortars, radiomen, artillery officers, new weapons with dual deployment modes, mantling, rocket launchers, improved tanking).

praxius criticises DH on being US centric and no one ever playing anything else?

patently false, I played as the brits a lot of the time when I played DH (though I did hate the enfield, it sort of sucked).

neither is the voice acting piss-poor.

the list goes on and on. Dismissing it as a failure of a mod is shortsighted.

This post is, eh, I don't even know. First off, autism is a real disorder people suffer from, using it as an insult is childish.

Secondly, people are free to hate free mod for RO1 like you are free to hate RO2 community.

I'm still bitter about the classic mode but hey, it's done. No use fighting it anymore.
