I currently own a quality gaming pc and video card aling with most of the current multiplayer games. A close friends absolutely loves the XBOX 360 and is dieing for me to buy one tomorrow night. So Im torn. I've been trying to justitfy buying one. Here's what I've come up with.

1) It's my understanding online cheating over LIVE is practically nonexistant ( beside laggers ) compared to PC gaming.
2) Being lefthanded the console is more friendly to me , no need to remap everything like I do the pc.
3) Ladders and ranks incorporated.
4) The majority of games now are being made for consoles then ported to pc where we experience tons of issues (see R6VEGAS ).

On flip side I think about

1) PC games allowing mods, and more players.
2) Mouse/Keyboard vs console accuracy .. ( from what ive read )
3) Graphics quality.

What do you think? I know there isn't one final answer I'd like to see opions on my reasoning so I can decide.
Thanks.

Gfx are always better on console for alot of games! But I hate console controls and much prefer the accuracy of a mouse. Also pc apponents are normally more of a challenge, as they are not usually casual gamers like the majority of console owners!

For the price of a 360 you can upgrade your pc and bring it up to scratch!

But... the choice is yours!

I dont think its worth it, unless you are interested in exclusive games, but I think that exclusive console games suck, look at gears of war for example, it was exclusive til now that they released the PC version, I played it and I went like "is this crap really the famous Gears of war everyone is talking about?"

also, console games are more expensive

and you need to pay a fee to play online with the 360

You mean to say that 360 and pc players are divided? Completly Different servers? I never play against console gamers?
Pardon my ignorance

If you have friends that mostly play on a 360 it might be worth getting if you could see yourself playing a lot with them over Live. I assume this is why he wants you to get it?

I have a PS3, a Wii, and a 360, and while they're all good consoles, I still the majority of my gaming on a PC. If a game comes out for both a console and a PC, odds are I'm getting it for the PC. I'm not trying to be a fanboy, I like my consoles, but I think the PC is almost an infinitely better choice for gaming, if not just because graphics are generally superior if you have a good PC and the availability of mods.

No, I mean if you play on Xbox Live, you're generally gonna meet people who just jump online to have a quick blast before going onto trying another game, therefore they are not going to master that game like a PC gamer who would buy a game solely for the mutiplayer aspect.

Im not saying you would be playing against an xbox user on your pc! I dont even know if thats possible with the games I'm currently playing or going to play ie COD4, BiA, Dirt or the new Need for Speed?

It is true that consoles usually have some exclusive games that makes you buy it only for that, but there are few good advatanges in general, some might be console based while some might be game based.

Resident Evil 4 Wii edition is very good example. You aim with that nunchuck thing that comes with the Wii (expect with sniper rifle), so practically if you miss it's about 85% your own hands fault that you didn't aim properly. And most of the "Think fast" or dynamic cutscene stuff and such you need to use your nunchuk heavily, and especially that one part where you need to run away from that damm Napoleon statue - my hand was tired. Swinging that nunchuk around for about twenty seconds to run away from that statue and then another ten seconds to run and another ten\fifteen seconds to climb up that bridge sure was tiring.

Even though RE4 is old, the Wii's nunchuk concept and few other new neat tricks makes it one of the best console shooters ever.

And there are some other great console games out there. Sure in general PC is more flexible due modding, patching, beter online avaibility and such, but there are still lots of great games which would be damm tough nuts to crack in order to get them properly working on PC. Or you would reguire a controller pad without question. Good bye mouse-keyboard combo on those situations.

So in general, pretty much depends on yourself. Sure consoles have lower flexibility overall, but that does not rule out entirely the fact there's lots of great games out for consoles too. And in case if you think that "PC port will save me", some PC ports are plain pain in the arse. RE4 PC port would be good example: majority of the people instantly cut their wrists because it does not support mouse, and learning how to aim with a keyboard takes less than one minute. And not to mention some other port-related issues.

Not to mention there are some true jewels that are console only.

Sunking,

If you leave PC gaming I will never talk to you again.

Seriously though, the only console I would consider getting would be the Wii, just because the PC covers the high end and the Wii could cover the low end.
My gf and I played the Wii tennis game at a Nintendo mall exhibit the other week and we really enjoyed it. I have to admit Nintendo is excellent at generating a certain kind of fun and bringing people who hate video games (like my gf) into gaming.

Coming from a PC to a console? Prepare to be underwhelmed.

That is of course if you like your games with a bit of depth. The 360 is however an excellent console. I have one under my bed that i need to sell at some point.

If you have a friend who is quite into his games, you will find some use for it. Maybe you should play his for a while then make your mind up?

The pad is no replacement for the keyboard and mouse but it does work and its not as bad as you think. There are no dedicated servers so online play is limited and sometimes laggy. Do not expect the speed you get from your PC.

There is no fee for an Xbox Live Silver account, according to a friend. But unless you pay extra for a gold account there are a few things you miss out on, mainly in server options I think. They're apparently trying to pull the same crap with games for windows; I predict massive ownage by steam :)

As for consoles themselves, I've only had an opportunity to get really hands on with a 360. It's impressive hardware, no doubt, but my computer is already pretty impressive on it's own, and it can support much more of, well, everything than a console could. I laugh at the touting of 80-gig hard drives in some consoles at a time when I'm considering putting a few terabytes of storage in my machine. ( I love full towers and lots of Sata connectors :) )

if the controller is the reason you want to buy a console, just buy one 360 usb controller and plug it in your PC, it works the same and its a cheaper solution
