There is character customization. The point is people like to look different to others who play. In KF 1 players liked having multiple versions of the same characters. This time around we have the ability to facilitate that without new characters having to be added and bloating up the character selection.

Edit. I just had to...

I think its easier to look at pictures and nit pick about things that you wouldn't normally notice when playing.

Overall I think the game looks great so far, majority of the textures look good and the monsters look good too. Seeing them in the bright snow screenshots looks a little weird but I think that would be because of the lighting.

The scrake and battle damaged flesh pound look awesome.

Man the impact blood looks really nice and globby, I remember disliking the huge flat blood sprites in the early dev diaries but maybe they improved it since then
Also is that a mask on the Scrake's face replacing the jaw guard? Maybe it flips down or there are scrake variants?

yeah I was going to say, it's not like you can pause time and inspect things super close
of course the mocapped animations can't be experienced in screenshots so I'd expect they add a lot to the visuals

Theres 2 things that really bug the crap out of me. The weapons and the characters shown thus far... everything else looks awesome.

KF1 had the perfect concept for characters
((military/police/post-apoc survivors/etc of that sort... before the chicken commandos and space robots))

and weapons.
((before the laboratory/alien dlc weapons came about))

I don't really admire the concept of punk emo hipsters or swagmeisters running around with CoD ray guns and improvised Dead Rising-type weapons. That's just me I guess.. Hell, personally.. just converting KF1 to this engine w/ the new features might've been just perfect. I love that modern-day feel while killing all these f'd up looking things. I'm worried as well, but I'll keep my head up for now.

PS: As far as character customization goes, I think R6:Vegas had a pretty good idea of it, tactical-wise.

The **** are you talking about. "Swagmeisters"? Please never say that word ever again. I'm pretty sure you'd get bullied if you said that in a public area.

And the emo-punk girl? You're acting like that can't exist. It's who the character is.

Stop.

I was just expressing the feel for a more modernized and realistic scene.. but okay Stalin, I'll let you dictate my preferences and opinions from now on.

The Ana chick looks real badass, and it's the kind of girl I'd try to hit on in real life; she would say 100%, but I'd still try:D.
All in all I really like the new screenshots: yeah, there are a few imperfections, but other companies release images that make their games look like total perfection and 100% realism, and when you actually play them they look crappy, so I prefer this attitude of tripwire of not hiding under the carpet the small issues; for good and for bad we know what we are getting.

I love character customisation, so way to go, full support from my side.;)
I'm ok with the way light looks on the models, and in the snowy map it's only natural for light to act like that.

And, oh my god, what did you do to the poor scrake's jaw? No wonder he's so damn angry now.

I've seen some of your previous posts and no offence but you come off as an aggressive person, i'm not sure if you're just trolling or what but it's a bit sad to see this. Can't we act civilized anymore or are we still in the cavemen era?

There's no need to be a dick toward others all the time unprovoked..

What's not 'post apoc survivor' about the current shown roster? Characters are a choice anyway, and I think it's good to have (I think) the first asian character in KF history as an option
I agree that some of characters did get completely out of hand though, I hope the characters are more lore-faithful for at least a year into KF2's release

So in an outbreak of course the militant types would rise to the challenge but what about the non-combatants? I'm pretty sure KF was always about the average person grabbing a big gun and ****ing **** up. Adds variation to the roster at least rather than just a long line of tacticool squaddies

The weapons indeed aren't as much of a choice, but I think with TW creating such an incredibly satisfying gore system why would you not want to shoot sawblades and nails around - given the choice, why stick to just bullets and blades?
What confuses me the most is your suggestion that KF2 would be better if it was just KF1 ported to the new engine and keeping the features
The way I see it KF2 iterates on KF1 in every aspect that a sequel should without changing, as TW has said, the DNA, but I'd like to hear what you think the difference between KF2 as it is and KF1 on KF2's engine and feature set would be

Speaking of character customization there should be different armor types
Light/Heavy which changes the characters appearance but the armor also needs to be balanced Light Armor gives you less protection but more mobility while Heavy armor gives you more protection but less mobility. Light armor being good for kiting while Heavy armor is good for camping.

You know you can argue your point properly rather than coming off as though you're literally sat on a sizeable steed as you type that right?
You'd be a lot more respectable as a person not treating others like they're morons even if you do disagree with their argument/wording, politeness is always a virtue

Like you mentioned, what worries me is if the game becomes less lore-friendly over time. I suppose the non-combatant civilian/survivor type could be okay... as long as there aren't any space robots, terminator chickens, or anything wayyy out of place. (Same goes for the weapons) I personally prefer the modernized weaponry of today as opposed to improvised Quake-like weapons.

KF1 started out with all military/police personnel.. and it was awkward when the civvy types started to come into play, so I guess i'm feeling that again. Like I said I'll keep my head up for now. I haven't played KF2, so I can't totally slander it based on a couple pictures.

I believe armor's ok the way it is now, what would be interesting, imho, are some kind of soundproof headphones to temporarily ward off siren's attacks.

A hilly, rainy part of England
I'm gonna avoid the squabbling and actually ask the devs a question:

Why have you decided to include character customisation? This isn't a trick question, I'm just wondering. The idea of weapon and character customisation has been brought up a whole bunch of time on these forums and its never gotten a very good reception. The market research is here for you. I (personally) don't see why you'd put resources into a feature like this when core gameplay has always been what's important to killing floor.

I guess to let people make their character unique for online play. Could you imagine joining a server with 5 Chickenators while being a chickenator kinda bland.

Forums, while great, are not the best "market research". What is best is watching what people actually do. And what they do in this case is like a character set in KF 1 and get multiple version of it that are different. So we've made a system to enhance that and make it better.
