Looking good. The only thing I dislike are those bright colors in the star while capping. It make the hud look like a cheap mobile game.
haha yeah same here, but i think,it's just a place holder, like most of the HUD stuff.

The game play looked good and the HUD/GUI didn't really bother me.
The thing I dislike most about this game is the quality of AMG character models.
Tripwires Russian and German character models from RO2 are still higher quality and more realistic looking when compared to the cartoonish RS1/RS2 characters. But this has been said before countless times.

Also, it would be nice to see a lens flare effect added to the sun.
This is standard in most modern games, yet still missing from RO2/RS/RS2.

Never heard anyone say that. Also as someone who has spent hours looking at them all the RS ones are slightly better than the RO2 ones.

And then there's the ones they did for their documentary series. Donated to heroes of the west. Those buggers are in 4k. So if they are anything to go by.

Check the thread a few pages back. Someone there pointed out good examples in screenshots.
Anyway, I wasn't talking about texture resolution, I was referring to the artistic style of the human anatomy/head sculpting/modeling.
I prefer the realistic look of the tripwire R02 characters, as opposed to the AMG RS/HOTW models.
And yes, its a matter of personal opinion. I don't expect everyone to agree.

I think he meant lack of details to the uniforms and wrinkles in comparison to the RO2.

RO2 characters rely more on artificial shading instead of just normal maps. They both have this shading but RO2 uniforms have gone overboard with it.

In my opinion RO2 characters look like cardboard.

They were made many years ago, saying they 'look like cardboard' isn't really a fair judgement.
And you don't need to spend hours looking at them in order to notice the differences between the two artistic styles.
RO2 characters may be outdated by todays standards and their textures not as high res, but that is not where the quality lies.
I was referring to the characters anatomy and facial construction.
AMG character heads are obviously more 'cartoony' in their art style.
It would be foolish to say that the Japanese heads in RS1 and the Vietnamese heads in RS2 actually look Asian, because they don't.
That is not my opinion, that is just stating the obvious.

Its not obvious, its rather your opinion. RS1 characters dont look like you want them to, because they are not dirty and were made featuring more advanced technologies, cant say exactly. But characters are both looking good and there are nothing to argue with each other opinions.

Maybe I hate them as I had to spend hours aligning every bit of new headgear to every head individually for heroes of the west. As RO2 heads are all different shapes and sizes.

RS heads all have the same height, length and depth. So you make it fit one and it fits the rest.

So I might be a tad biased lol.

Or they were smartly pipelined the way they should be, but as a possible factor
of the same dimensions they look "worse" to some people. Also when do I get the experimental custom face paint that you were testing with a screenshot on moddb, I want to run around looking like an insane clown....:(

This is somewhere we disagree. Our characters were higher detail and used a better skin shader than RO2's. Where we fell flat was that our uniforms were created to be used with a new shader, but had to be switched to the old one late in development and they ended up looking flat by comparison.

When we did WW2's Greatest Raids we reused the RO2 heads to add variety, but applied our own skin shader and the improvement was like night and day.

For RS2 we're using a new set of shaders again for both uniforms and skin and we've effectively doubled the resolution of the uniform textures (previously tunic and gear shared a single texture sheet, now they get one 2048x2048 sheet each). When you put them side by side with the older RO2 and RS1 characters it's pretty hard to argue that they don't look better.

Maybe that's something we should do for one of the weekly posts. Some side-by-side shots of the improvements from game to game. :)
