For anyone that doesn't know yet, the INI and Text creation methods for resetting Perks should both be working now if you opt into the Steam Client Beta. Valve worked diligently to fix this for us and we should all thank them for their efforts.

How do you opt into the Steam Client Beta?

NVM I found out...

Google ftw:

To access the Beta, go to File -> Settings. On the Account tab press the Change... button to open the Beta Participation dialog. Then Select Steam Client Beta, and allow Steam to restart itself.

Still not working for me :(

I removed kf from steam and the folder to have a clean copy installed. Went into the account settings pressed change and only thing i could see was "beta update" I select it.

I let steam reboot itself and start kf with no ini or text files added to just check. Turns out I've already had some form of stat reset which was really weird. I go into my ini to find this:
[Engine.SteamStatsAndAchievementsBase]
bResetStats=False
bDebugStats=False

[ROEngine.KFSteamStatsAndAchievements]
bOverridePerkLevels=False
MedicPerkLevel=0
SupportPerkLevel=0
SharpshooterPerkLevel=0
CommandoPerkLevel=0
BerserkerPerkLevel=0
FirebugPerkLevel=0
DemolitionsPerkLevel=0

Which would indicate that somehow the command for resetting stats had somehow been automatically entered.
I find it very strange as I had just reinstalled the game and only opted in for beta. I remove the lines and restart steam and boot up kf. I see my old stats (as in not reset). I exit and try the ResetStats.txt and ResetAchievements.txt .. no work... I reboot again and try the ini command only to see the same lines appear as I showed above.

I am really starting to lose hope :S

I don't know if it has anything to do with my numerous attempts to reset my stats over the past month or two or the fact that I own all 3 dlcs. But it has to be something since this new fix won't work.

We've tested it for over 30 people now and it's working for everyone else, even people with all the DLC. Is there anyone else having troubles with it? Please chime in if it worked for you.

OK so I started KF again today after waking up, all normal and functioning old stats intact. I exit and activate beta update and restart steam. Open KF again all still normal.

I go into the system folder and create two text documents ResetStats.txt and ResetAchievements.txt I don't write anything inside the documents.

I start up KF only to find I can't access profile and achievements (no surprise there) I can't join multiplayer games as there is an unknown error preventing me to connect to server (I am given the advice to contact valve). I start a solo game and all my perks etc are reset. I exit and remove the two txt. files and enter KF again. Still bugged, can't join multiplayer or view stats etc. I exit again and enter my ini file to find the same broken commands as I have shown numerous times. I remove them and enter KF again still broken.

Am I doing something wrong here or is something just plain wrong itself?

Worked for me.

Closed KF after playing a bit, opted into the beta update, restarted steam, launched the game to check my perks: All there. Edited the .ini to include the reset stats line, and when I checked my profile from the main menu (after a quick restart), my perks were completely reset back to 0. Immediately jumped into a multiplayer game and there were no problems. In fact - my achievements didn't disappear. So either the new method works better than it did before by not wiping achievements, or they'll be removed shortly.

Anyway; thank ya Tripwire 'n Valve. Extremely nice to start from 0 and get rid of the crutch I've been stuck with.

The only way it's going to reset stats is if your Profile/Achievements and Multiplayer aren't bugged. Try to resolve that first before attempting to reset anything. My suggestion to resolve that is to delete your whole killingfloor/System folder and have Steam "Verify Intergrity of Game Cache" to redownload it.

I never attempt to reset stats when they are bugged. I always wait until they are fixed until I attempt again. But as soon as I input the ini line, save. open up KF it's bugged again. What can I do?

Right after reading your response I went into KF noticed multiplayer/profile wasn't bugged. Beta update already turned on. I exit and write a ResetStats.txt file. Open KF and join a solo game (as it never works to open profile or multiplayer when I do either text or ini commands) and I can play as lvl 0 in solo. I exit. Remove the ResetStats or ini line (whichever I use) and then I go back into KF and it's still bugged. The only thing that resolves it is reinstalling KF or system folder or letting valve fix itself. Which in turn means no perk reset anyway.

So tell me, what can I do? I feel like I've tried every possible combination.

Perhaps you could be so kind as to write me a detailed guide because either I'm a complete moron or something is wrong with my KF/steam that can't be resolved with any of these fixes.

Start from the beginning. Delete the System folder and verify the game files. Can you access your perks as normal and play online now?

Of course I can. But as soon as I input the ini command or use the .txt files the game bugs out again. As in my perks won't ever reset because every usage of either the ini command or the .txt files results in a bugged game.

This is my problem and I have yet to hear of any way to fix it.

I mean I have tried EVERYTHING believe me. Every single combination of the ini command or .txt files in combination with reinstalls. beta update or no beta update, reinstall. check game works. reset steam with beta update, check game works. try ini command. ****ing bugged.. redo it all again and try .txt files ****ing bugged again. I've tried EVERYTHING.

And nothing works :(

Try showing us the INI file before (as in, when the game is working) and after you modify it to reset perks. It might give us some clue as to what's going wrong, or what mistake you might be making. Although rather than copying the entire contents of files into a message I'd suggest you either attach them to the message (upload as an attachment) or put them in separate spoiler tags. Just suggesting this since otherwise the page size on this thread will be huge. :p

BY JUPITERS COCK IT'S WORKING!

I think the solution was so simple as to start KF through steam instead of using the killingfloor.exe after I tried reset command.

Could it be??

... Yes, that's how you should always be running it, and not running it through Steam would account for all your problems.

I usually run it through steam but when I was doing reset you are already in the system folder you know. So it's easier to just click the exe instead of having to go through steam.

At least know we know of one more fix should anyone else experience the same problem.
