That looks more like a crepe. Pancakes should be a bit thicker, you really shouldn't be able to fold or roll it.

FYI: If you live near an IHOP, get your butt there. They're giving out free shortstacks (of Pancakes, duuuur) today until 10PM. All you need to do is give a small donation to this charity set up at each location. So you can donate and give less than the actual cost of a short stack normally costs, to get some pancake goodness.

I, sadly, do not live near an IHOP.

WHAT!?!??

Shrove Tuesday - the last of the 3 days of Shrovetide before Lent. In grossly over-simplified terms - a form of 'last hurrah' for someone about to observe lent as a form of atonement. Various forms of rowdy behaviour etc usually ensued during the 3 days before lent. Incidentally, it also had a pragmatic purpose in using up ingredients such as eggs / Bacon on the Monday and fat etc on the Tuesday so that ingredients prohibited during lent were all used up at once....

It's just a remnant from most denominational branches of the Christian Religion and it has seemingly lived on in England and parts of the UK as a secular activity - I'm guessing because people still like Pancakes even if they don't believe in any of it anymore....


Surely it still exists in some parts of Europe too ? Actually - isn't this what Mardi-Gras is - except maybe a little more excessive than a few Pancakes ?
