Just an idea, but how about if only NCO's, Officer's and Artillery observers where allowed to view an overhad map ("O" button), this way riflemen & such of whom are in his squad will have to rely even further on in-squad communication to locate objectives e.t.c. It would also be historically correct as only the above classes would posses map-cases to hold maps otherwise why not give every class binoculars (not realisitic).

True, that would be relatively realistic (restriction on map access for certain roles).

However, there is a such a thing as too much realism which can manifest poor gameplay. As a player, I don't want to constantly rely on a single or couple of persons for directions. I also want to know the overlay of the map (level), so that I can more easily play on it. So, while it may be realisitc for only squad leaders, artillery observers, etc. to have maps, that could also diminish the fluidity of gameplay. If anything, allowing overlay maps for all players will encourage teamwork. Squad leaders set rally points, etc. which other plays may follow. Also, it distinguishes where artillery barrages are and what objectives are under attack, etc.

Yeah and how are those Squadleader supposed to give info to their Squad mates ? Make the Leader Classes only avaible to people with Mics ? And if they don't use em for more them ?

It basically makes it necessary that the Leader Class Players are excellent Team Players, which will not happen and seriously cripple the Teamplay.

It seems very plausible.

With the tactical view in place, players shouldn't have too much difficulty finding objectives without the overhead map.

For realism mode, it would be the right choice to restrict overhead maps only for officers and NCOs.

It also would be great, if the overhead map would be "real map" (and I mean somewhat realistic looking map, which would also have less info than in relaxed realism mode) only for officers. NCOs would have more crude "hand drawn copy", a simplified version of the map. Just like it was back then. Maps were scarse.

These things would be mostly cosmetic, but very immersive.

Mostly this. I am all for realism, but lets not make the game frustrating. By restricting the map to just leaders, you are going to make it so anyone in a leadership position is going to have to micromanage his team and not really get anything done. Either that or they will just run around like any other player and leave the rest of the team in the dark until they have played the map so many times they finally have an idea where everything is.

You most likely have battles being represented in game that probably took much longer than a map round will be. Also, the areas are probably larger to where way more than 64 players would be on the map at any one time if in real life. As much as you may want it, players aren't going to communicate with each other as if they are in the same room fighting and passing on information and orders. Even if they did and everyone had a mic and used it, not everyone speaks the same language. Therefore, you need to stretch reality a bit and allow players the use of a map to help simulate some of this information.

Keep in mind that if you start making the 'realism' mode so much more difficult and exclusive, that those fears of all the 'relaxed realism' servers will definitely dominate and eventually overwhelm the 'realism' servers as the game ages.

This might make a decent mutator, but I wouldn't want to see it in the realism mode.
