Let me start by saying thanks to the original team for starting Killing Floor and to Tripwire Interactive for picking it up and making it what it is today!

So after coming back to KF after a bit of break to get in on the Twisted Christmas advent I decided to take a look at what started it all. The original mod for UT2k4.
I've got to say, what an awesome game. Below is a video of me playing through a wave. It was features like the finger prints on the scope, it just made you feel like you'd been dropped in the deep end of a hell hole and had grabbed what you could. I also liked the flourish on the knife and preferred it's stabbing motion to that of the harder swipe. You don't see it in this video but the stalker has more attacks including a roundhouse kick. Shame they didn't carry some of these across.
PS. Sorry about the quality, just got the settings wrong. *rolls eyes*

first off, i love the classic KF. could never seem to get headshots on any of them for some reason. i am sad that the game doesnt work on my computer now, a lot of stuff doesnt work on this thing since i reformatted it a few months ago. but yeah, i kinda think the older versions of the specimens are more creepy. except for maybe the fleshpound.

After playing KF 1.0 I thoroughly loved it. I didn't think too much of KF 2.5 in comparison though but I adored KF-Offices with its elevator as well as the original 1.0 design, where you drop on top of an office building, gear up with your assault rifles and descend downwards to exterminate the bullet-sponge of a zombie horde floor-by-floor. I think that style of play could be altered in some ways to provide the basis of some totally new game that doesn't even look like KF.

Still, I raise my glass to congratulate TWI for creating my very favourite, most-played game alongside the quiet immersive masterpiece that is RO, with its upcoming sequel.. :IS2:

The guns also seem to feel more powerful even if they aren't.

This. The weapons felt so powerful that you'd be suprised to hear that they're weaker than you think. It gives you the impression that the zombie horde is an incredible force to be reckoned with and when you find that your seemingly powerful weaponry is weak when used it creates a feeling of fear and dread for the appearance of the zombies. Unlike left 4 dead when your weapons felt weak and the enemy, weaker and Resident Evil where your weapon felt weak and your enemy powerful.

Searching for survivors.
I just like the sound of powerful weapons. When I used to play Left 4 Dead I had to replace the original firing sounds for all the guns in the game because they sounded so pathetically weak. It actually made the game way more fun to play when I added more powerful sound effects. It'd be nice to mod the sound effects of the guns from the video you posted into KF.

I play KF since the 2.1 mod (2005), and I must say the mod felt a lot scarier than the retail version. My whole body was shaking with fear and excitment as I would play hours with my friends. Unfortunately, I'm disappointed that TWI never inserted that creepy mood from the mod to the retail version, because personaly, that was the ultimate reason why I was enjoying the game so much. The maps were filled with dust (players couldn't see far ahead), the voices, which were directly imported from UT2K4, sounded a lot more serious and fitted the mood nicely, etc. Now, yeah sure, the game is great, but I feel like during the transformation from mod to retail, the game lost part of its soul and, mostly, one of its most essential caracterisitc that made it such an awesome game.
