I must say that I am honestly surprised at Codemasters, and in a pleasant way. I just might end up doing the same thing as Colt if the end product is as promising as it sounds.

Sounds very interesting, but could anyone explain - OFP2 will have West vs Russia or West vs China? I thought the latter, but since Sahalin is a Russian territory, then I don't know..

Considering that interview is a standard PR exercise, I'll take it with a few grains of salt. A whole bag in fact. Don't think though, that I don't want to believe it's true, because I do, oh how I do! But there's only so many time's I'll get caught believing developer hype. I'll wait and see what this is like come release before I decide whether it's worth getting.

I honestly hope that it is.

Sound great to me. I'm not holding my hopes too high *yet* though. As there are not any single screenshot or video taken from in-game, but only renders and interviews. If the screens and videos look good, then I'll jump in the "hype wagon" right away :D

Their point of view looks like a what simulation player wants, and I like it.

Turns out there was a second part to that interview I posted earlier, here it is:

PC Gamer: Are the team intimidated at dealing with a game like Flashpoint? It's not your average soldier game, in terms of its fanbase. Where most have been watered down over the years (Rogue Spear, etc), Flashpoint is crazy authentic for people who like knowing the names of calibre. What sort of reaction do you expect from the community?

Andy: I worked on the original, and am all too aware of the expectations for this game. That

Info on how detailed the game will be doesnt make it realistic though, but that is pretty much all he is saying about realism in that quote.
And, 'as much war as can fit on your screen'? How am i supposed to see this, like CoD battles?

So anyway, I got a brand spanking new PC about two weeks ago and a few days ago I decided to see how ArmA went. You'd expect it to be good, right? WRONG. After taking two days to get it running on my Vista install, I now can't lower my mouse sensitivity anywhere NEAR enough to make it playable, the mouse lag is unbearable (even with vsync forced off and pre-rendered frames set to 0) and to top it all, whenever I have a game menu open, it causes little freezes when ever I try to click a button, with a high chance of instead earning a complete crash.

Up until this point I was actually holding a little bit of loyalty to BIS, but this has been the last straw. Screw them. I'm jumping on the Codies bandwagon. Doesn't mean I'm not still scared it'll be an arcade-fest (but cautiously optimistic at present), but at the least it'll probably run.

Well go ahead and call me whatever you want. I've got my reasons and right to think what i think, and the past has proven to me that what i think is usually the way things turn out.
I'm not counting on anything, because the more you expect the more dissapointed you can be, and other developers taking over NEVER has led to better games in a franchise, because they allways change the original vision in ways they see fit to 'make the game more open to the public'.
And that's something i just dont tolerate. Not that my opinion matters to them but i dont have to accept it either.

You expressed your opinion. We heard it. Should we leave it at that or are you going to continue to comment every new (or old) information regardless of what it actually says with unfounded grumbling? You're just being negative for negativity's sake and it's getting kind of old.

It'd be great if someone made a WWII mod for this when it comes out. Would neatly fit into TWI's Game 2's place. Yeah.

From the official forums:

OFP2 to be lead cover feature in August edition of PC Gamer
Hi everyone,

I know you have all been waiting patiently for more information regarding the game, and it's with pleasure that I can say that Operation Flashpoint 2 will be the lead cover feature in next months edition of PC Gamer. The magazine will be going on-sale on July 3rd, and will feature a huge in-depth article regarding what you can expect to see in the game!

It's been a long wait for everyone but you should be seeing a lot more information being released in the next few months

There is an preview article in the new GameStar (German gaming mag)
with pretty detailed infos
The facts in short:

-story about oil, USA fighting Chinese
-70 detailed weapons (including multi round firing prototypes)
-Cobra heli, M1A1 (or a newer version?), BlackHawks, M2A3 and this amphibious transporter of the Marines, they didn't say anything about if the vehicles can be player contolled
-the island has an vulcan, it is based on an real island
-they changed the uniform pattern because the real US Army did so
-island name is Skira (looks rather small, no major cities were shown)
-badass AI (for enemies and your team), battles feel "real" and different every time
-no actual ingame screens or video were shown
-release will be 2009 (beginning)
-destroyable buildings (at least to a certain degree)
-simplified command structure (compared to Flashpoint 1, didn't say how it will work)
-no word about iron sights etc.
-no HUD elemnts were shown
-claims to be a "war simulator"
-more detailed cockpits on the PC

If they really do what they say they want to do it will be awesome.
