I'm almost sold, but when they release proper gameplay footages; I'll be completely sold. Somehow I believe these guys.

Still, it's hard to believe a mainstream company like codemasters went on and started building a detailed simulator.

Well if they pull this off (and it looks like they will) it'll sell VERY well since every war buff will be buying it, bar none.

Don't forget OFP did very well in sales.

What's wrong with it? It only looks so overupgraded because the grenade launcher takes half of the space, then you have a scope and a laser aim thingy. And I dunno but maybe the 'Mod 0' could mean that this variant is just too show whats possible with customization.

Nothing is wrong with it: carbine with grenade launcher, aimpoint and laser module. Not at all an unusal combination. The only ones who "got to be kidding" are the whiners who think they are more realistic than real life.

Tacticool doesn't belong in a sim, end of. If it's done to demonstrate the variety in customization, alright. One or two attachments are fine. But a grenade launcher, laser, optical sight AND an ironsight all on one rifle? Keep that **** to GRAW, please. Soldiers don't put that much stuff on their rifles.

But they'll probably just put in the M16 as standard rifle for the US side. Or maybe the M4.

Well it certainly is used, even if of course not as standard issue rifle. That's why it says Mod. 0 to show that it's only a modification(showing that therell be much possible customization which is a good thing) and again of course not your standard issue rifle at least not for the generic soldier.

Will the US Army/Navy/Marine/whatever actually use the Scar? Because I once heard that the (X)M8 for one was not accepted.
The SCAR and XM8 are two completely different weapon platforms.

The SCAR is designed from the ground up as a completely modular weapons system by FN in Belgium, otherwise famous for such successful firearms as the FN FAL, FNC, FN Minimi (US M249) and FN Mag 58 (US M240). Whereas the XM8 was to be a new general issue rifle for American forces, it was largely based on the G36 and was in development but was dropped due to it not being seen as not much of an improvement on the M16 platform, though apparently it was much more reliable.

The SCAR is currently in use by American special forces. There are models chambered in 5.56 NATO, 7.62 NATO and even 6.8 SPC. Apparently you can also adapt the 7.62 NATO model to fire 7.62x39 M43 with a few simple parts, allowing you adapt it over and use enemy ammunition in the field.

I hope more than just the 5.56 version is represented but hey I'm happy either way.

Thad video was awesome, from the soldier animations to the vehicle entry animations and everything in between it looked great. Plus the presenter seemed to really be stressing how realistic they want to make it. They're adding those little touches like proper reloading animations and such that BIS continue to neglect in the ArmA series which can break immersion.

As I said to a good friend I am adding half a point to my hypedness (so I am still wary).

The vid looks cool, i'll be convinced when they get some gameplay out but it's good they showed us an informative videos like this. I'm guessing the SCAR will be limited to special forces.

Nice information there. Although I'm not convinced by talk and videos anymore. OFP2 sure looks like a innovative game, but I remain skeptical since I've seen so many hyped games being very disappointing.

Well, the looks and the talk are promising but they have to "dumb it down" if they want to sell big amounts of this game.
I mean look how few ppl playing RO, PR or ArmA comparing to vanilla BF2, CS, DoD or any other little kiddie game where you can jump around like a jackrabbit and run

You forget that OFP sold well over one million copies. And that was with little marketing (compared to what Codies will undoubtedly do)

A very, very well done realistic shooter could do extremely well since there's basically no alternatives for the grognards who buy these kinds of games.

ArmA's a bad comparison, it was buggy as hell, I didn't buy it and I was a huge OFP fan.

I admit i hope you are right!!!
