Will the US Army/Navy/Marine/whatever actually use the Scar? Because I once heard that the (X)M8 for one was not accepted.
The SCAR and XM8 are two completely different weapon platforms.
The SCAR is designed from the ground up as a completely modular weapons system by FN in Belgium, otherwise famous for such successful firearms as the FN FAL, FNC, FN Minimi (US M249) and FN Mag 58 (US M240). Whereas the XM8 was to be a new general issue rifle for American forces, it was largely based on the G36 and was in development but was dropped due to it not being seen as not much of an improvement on the M16 platform, though apparently it was much more reliable.
The SCAR is currently in use by American special forces. There are models chambered in 5.56 NATO, 7.62 NATO and even 6.8 SPC. Apparently you can also adapt the 7.62 NATO model to fire 7.62x39 M43 with a few simple parts, allowing you adapt it over and use enemy ammunition in the field.
I hope more than just the 5.56 version is represented but hey I'm happy either way.
Thad video was awesome, from the soldier animations to the vehicle entry animations and everything in between it looked great. Plus the presenter seemed to really be stressing how realistic they want to make it. They're adding those little touches like proper reloading animations and such that BIS continue to neglect in the ArmA series which can break immersion.
As I said to a good friend I am adding half a point to my hypedness (so I am still wary).
