Open Beta of Spring Update

Open Beta of Spring Update

As we get close to the release of the update, we would like to give our community the opportunity to participate in this final phase of testing. With the addition of high player count servers we would like to put the game and some of these servers through their paces before the release.

As such we are going to be running a special beta through Steam that you can access with a special pass worded Steam shortcut. We encourage anyone that would like to get a sneak peak of the upcoming patch to participate, just be aware that this is a beta test - so only participate if you

And the details of how to access the Beta:

And the details of how to access the Beta:

A beta version of the current patch is now up on Steam behind a beta password for testing before the patch goes live. If you would like you can download this version for testing, however keep in mind that your version of RO will no longer be compatible with the public (pre-patch) version of RO until the new patch is made public (very soon). And rolling back won't really be an option since this patch is pretty big. So here is what you need to do:

[UPDATE] An issue has been found with this beta update if you have a previous version of Berezina installed. This issue will be fixed for the public release, but in the interim we have a workaround. Please note, the beta update will still work without this workaround, this will just prevent you from having to redownload the game more than once. So if you have had a version of Berezina installed (or autodownloaded from a server) in the past please do the following:

Step 1A. Delete all the file in your <Steam Install Directory>SteamApps\common\red orchestra\Cache directory.
Step 1B. Delete this file <Steam Install Directory>SteamApps\common\red orchestra\Staticmeshes\allies_ahz_guns_stc.usx.
Step 1C. Delete this file <Steam Install Directory>SteamApps\common\red orchestra\animations\allies_ahz_45mm_anm.ukx.
Step 1D. Delete this file <Steam Install Directory>SteamApps\common\red orchestra\textures\allies_ahz_guns_tex.utx.
Step 1E. Delete this file <Steam Install Directory>SteamApps\common\red orchestra\textures\InterfaceArt_ahz_tex.utx.

Now procede on with Step 1 below.

1. Turn off autolaunching Steam when windows starts. You can do this under File->Setting->Interface and then uncheck the "Run Steam When Windows Starts" checkbox.

2. Close Steam

3. Create a desktop shortcut to launching Steam (or just copy your current shortcut if you have one).

4. add this to the commandline for your steam shortcut:
-beta roclient50
Your shortcut will look something like this:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -beta roclient50

5. Launch Steam with the new shorcut you just created and wait for the game to finish updating.

6. If when you launch the game it doesn't work, or you get mismatches when connecting to a [Beta 1047 Test] server, Verify your cache. Right click on the games icon in the Steam games list. Select the "Local Files" tab, and click the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache..." button. This will make sure all files downloaded properly.

7. When the update completes, launch the game and connect to one of the Beta servers mentioned below.

There will be some servers up for testing, and they should have [Beta 1047 Test] at the beginning of their name. If you sort the servers by name, you should see these servers near the top of the list. Only connect to servers with the [Beta 1047 Test] tag at the beginning of their name. Hop onto a server, have fun, and report any issues you have in this thread in the support forums: CLICK HERE.

While we encourage everyone to participate in this test, please bear in mind this is a beta, and there may be some bumps along the road, so please only participate if you’re willing to deal with any issues that may pop up during the beta test.

-- Addition by Yoshi ---

For those of you who want to keep a clean public build of RO, you can install steam again (to a different location), copy your RO folder over, and put the command line update in the second steam's shortcut. This will give you 2 versions of steam, one with the beta and one with the public.

Nice, Im in!
But -- What will happen when the final patch is out, just hope we wont have to reinstall?
Or will that be sorted by Steam?

-S

Well if we don't find any issues in this beta, it will just become the "official" release and you won't have to download anything. If we do find an issue, you would get a small update upon the official releease.

I take it once this open beta is over and its relesed we remove the modified text in the steam shortcut too.
