Me, myself and I would be fairly happy with just cosmetic upgrades for weapons and having all "upgrades" available for them right from the start. I've never been to into the leveling weapons to get things kinda idea.

However, I doooooo like the advantages of the Leveled Classes, they are in no-way as pronounced as the weapon advantages and are something that can also be beneficial to your team; Looking at suppression resistance and squad suppression reducing effects. Cosmetic upgrades would be lovely and provide some even variety to the already varied soldiers (as long as everyone doesn't go for the most bad-ass look :p).

Overall, some fabulous ideas you have there, but I personally would like to keep the Class progression system.

Just need to make sure Hero's are as distinguished as possible, it's hard enough spotting them on the battlefield as it is.

I would love more cosmetic upgrades as it would allow myself to be more distinguishable on the battlefield. Nothing too crazy, but things that would actually be historically accurate and likely handed out to the troops. Furthermore, the current upgrades for weapons would be nice to be selectable; I personally prefer the MP40 in lieu of the MP40/II for aesthetic reasons alone.

I was hoping RO2 would ship with these kind of things, because they announced you could upgrade your character with all kinds of stuff. This is really the only sort of upgrade I would want to see in the game! Time for some diversity among the soldiers!

I know a lot of folks are still waiting for the marksman hero capes/cloaks; it would be nice to distinguish them apart even further from other heroes. Compared to RO:O, character models between the classes are very diverse, but even if we could have a little bit more to differentiate them, that would be fantastic!

But we must have a lot of luck when we are waiting for this as an official TWI patch (maybe in one year, or more?)

All we can do is: Post our wishes and wait for the wonder patch, or Mod, but it would be much better when TWI will do this.
But to add this new unlock system means to delete the complete old one, and that will never happen :(

But can we hope for a fast Mod? With all these things we have on our wishlist? Or will the rest of the (old) community leave RO before, searching for a new game?

But back to topic, any other ideas for cosmetic unlocks? Of course only things who harmonize with the Battle of Stalingrad. RO2 need much more historical accuracy and atmosphere, too.

Personally I'd rather the unlocks stay the same as now for relaxed realism... and that ALL unlocks are removed from realism mode.

Tripwire have given me a spark, maybe it turns into a great firework :)
I'm not so sure. This unlocks and progression thing is most likely someone's much loved baby at TWI and it probably won't be going anywhere soon.

Mined ewe, defaulting to Lvl26 on everything and locking players there might be a good place to pin the "Realism" mode to, and just stop awarding any XP at the end of each match. At that level you get all of the standard gear and none of the fantasy weapons and upgrades. Everyone would be on the same role/weapon stat buffs too so they'd no longer be unfair.

Unreal Tournament 3 Character Customization - YouTube

It'd be nice to have it that way.

Headgear: helmet/ field cap
Helmet Decals yes/no (you should be able to set different combos here)
Helmet Foliage: yes/no/barbed net only
Chinstrap yes/no
Face: Face1/Face2/Face3/Face4
Voice: Voice1/Voice2/Voice3/Voice4
Body: uniform type (winter suit/greatcoat), Zeltbahn/Cape
Sleeves: Rolled-up/standard (no rolled-up sleeves on cold maps anyway)
Boots: Jackboots/pilfered felt boots for Germans

Now some may argue that decals might give away players position more easily due to f.ex. a big red star on the front.
Well, is that your personal problem? Don't think so. Each player decides for themselves what to do. Be more visible or less. If you are on the enemy team you should be actually thankful for someone being "stupid" to do so.

Helmets, yes, Germans actually always wore helmets in combat. But we have come that far that we allowed weapons like MkB42s and AVT40s in our ranks en masse. We have a character leveling and actually everything is person-specific. So if someone decides to go for a Fieldcap rather than a steel helmet they should be able to grab one. Again it is not your problem if they get killed by frags penetrating their head due to lack of countermeasures.

Also customization is kept within certain boundaries, you will not see anyone running around with viking helmets at all or rolled-up sleeves in winter.

And for bayonets, I want to take those things de - and attach as often as I like to do so in the field and not just in menu.

I'd really like some options of customizations, this whole leveling thing is making it feel so limited.

I agree customization is better then unlocks. People want diversity and balance. Always keep the customization very real to life and have a good impact. A camouflaged coat and helmet would make a world of difference

I concur.

Giving upgraded equipment to players who already are better is rather counterproductive.

Letting players select a limited amount of upgrades unrelated to their play time, and giving cosmetic options to advanced players, sounds like exactly the right path.

How about some degree of physical change for the character itself? This could even be linked to gameplay changes, provided it was done in a balanced way.

1. Height. Tall character gets small bonus to run speed but is easier to spot and shoot. Short character is harder to see but runs slightly slower.

2. Weight. Heavy character does slightly more damage in melee and experiences slightly less recoil but has a small reduction in run speeda more heavy-set character model (thus slightly easier to spot and shoot) and increased inertia. Light character does less melee damage and suffers more recoil but has less inertia and runs faster, with a more wiry model that's a little harder to spot and shoot.

Cosmetic stuff is always fun, Russian Engineer body armour or marksmen cloaks would be sweet.

Ah, but is that really realism mode? Your making the game less realistic by removing them all. They could call it no unlock mode, but in reality the realism is somewhere in between no unlocks and what we have now.
