There's going to be a closed beta and the game is going to be released on 30th August. the level of hysteria on the forum of late is getting unbearable.

Hysteria is good, man =) I'm gonna be there day 1 anyways, but it would be cool to help out with some of the last minute game mode testing/polishing. To be able to look back and say "we helped!" in some small way would rule, hehe. But yes, it ultimately doesn't change the fact that if I could find a preorder option on Steam I'd have already bought it by now =p.

I sent in my clan beta application a month ago. I hope it is still considered as I was working late today and couldn't send a new one with full names and emails and just 4 ppl ^^.

Well, not to toot my own horn, I was a tester for World War 1: Source and Ham and Jam, so I hope that tells of my experience.

Beta's these days are more like demo's than a beta.
What I mean by that is, people use the beta as an indicator as to whether or not they'll buy the game, I'm one of these people. If the core game play in the beta is crap, chances are the full game will be too. Traditionally, betas are used to test the games online capabilities etc, etc.....
So this is why TW is getting the beta as perfect as possible, to persuade rock spider like myself to buy the game.

That's only because most betas these days ARE just demos. They're released to the general public and called betas so developers can say "oh well if there's a problem it's not indicitave of the final product" so people will be further coerced into buying the game.

I am in the 'Freelancers who don't know and speak to eachother and only play together when they randomly encounter eachother in pub games' clan.

Singing up for the beta, I am in a clan:D

edit: singing is of course not the word I meant:eek:

This is a true beta. This is not a demo.

Flat out.

Thats not really for you to decide though is it. If someone plays the beta, adds no feedback, decides they don't like the game based on the beta and then goes on to not purchase the full game then they're clearly treating it as a demo.
And this will happen, no doubt, if a large beta is released.

The release is only a month and a bit away. At this point, personally, I can wait.

I'm not much of a tester anyway, and I don;t want to occupy a Beta slot just because I want an early demo, like alot of other people do.

Digitalmindsoft (Maker of Men of war: Assault squad) had one of the best beta models out there.

Pay $10 and get beta rights, basically you pay to play the game early, and it keeps the riff raff out, the players that pay are dedicated to the game and are very helpful in finding bugs and test feature balance (wouldn't you be if you paid money?). The money helps the developer. After the beta is over, the dev gives a free gift to the player like a $5 DLC.

Of course TWI doesn't charge for DLC but I adored this beta model, and playing the game up until release, I was excited to see the game open to the public and show them what I've been playing for a while and balancing.
