I'm an old cod competitive guy from the Cod era and I have to disagree, seriously RO and COD is not similar in any way possible and you play them completly different.
I am a member of one of the largest tactical gaming clans that currently run COD4, COD5, COD:BO, and ARMA2 and your concerns are negligible; let me tell you why.
We run tactical servers nor run and gun arcade style servers. Many in the COD community shun servers like ours because we have rules leaning towards more realism and they want the younger newer run and gun style play. For the last few years the COD franchise has catered to the run and gun style of game play and ignored us hardcore tactical players. For this reason there are many in the tactical gaming community who are anxiously awaiting RO2 explicitly for the tactical realism. Basically we are all looking for a new home to play good honest and realistic tactical game play and RO2 is it.

It isn't like videos like this are being made. Battlefield 3 - Official 3D Spotting Trailer - YouTube
I think you'll see a lot of new people come into the game playing relaxed realism servers and then try out hardcore servers and get hooked. We all started out playing non realistic games and then found more and more realism to our liking with different games, mods etc. Don't worry, it'll work out fine.
Yes, exactly. We are trying to ease people into Red Orchestra in its full realism glory, because the "unforgiving learning curve" was the most repeated comment from RO1 naysayers. If they end up just sticking with Relaxed Realism, then that's their decision, but there will be plenty of people playing Realism on launch day and for many years to come.
I loved GAME X...the only game I found worth while playing online...I'm a geek and the realism compared to you GAME Y and GAME Z games is what made it for me.
I'm sure this has been mentioned many times on here, but I am worried about GAME X. A game I've been looking forward to over any other release since it was first announced. Then after following the development which at first sounded perfect only as more info was released doubts starting to ease in with regards to the hardcore realsim of the first being dumbed down in the second....which if the case is purely to entice the GAME Y and GAME Z crowd....and if the case would be a major blow to all those who have bought, played and loved GAME X. I do get the impression you can play either in realsim mode or arcade mode, which if so is very sad to hear, it will split the community and I only hope that when new players come along they try out the realisitc servers and learn how to play, as it's so much more rewarding then other online FPS games out there.
Now things like "streamlined realsim", unlocking mechanic and even the artwork add fuel to the fire of what was a tiny flame of doubt and now is a well lit sofa...
So am I wrong in being so worried...can anyone douse the flames for me...my fingers are crossed.

I agree with the OP, Various Names, Flogger, and others with their assesment of RO2. For $32 I will also get the game to support TWI. I figure on playtesting the game in AI Mode for awhile to learn the mechanics, then find " Hard Core Realism" servers with a few guys or clan who share my same views.
I consider myself on the extreme end of "Realism" and below is a quick list from top of head that may concern me about RO2 ( many concerns from RO1 ) after reading the Forums and watching vids.
Hope some things can be changed server side, and others by the game mechanics ( that might be the hard part ).
-Weapon switching is to fast ( didn't like this in RO1 ).
-Zoom
-Unlocks & Rank-Ups
-Less fatigue when running compared to RO1 ( RO1 did a good job )
-To fast speed when running over rough terrain, going up-down stairs, etc ( didn't like that in RO1 )
-Rare weapons ( whats the point )
-Recon Plane ( not in scope of RO )
-Heavy Arty ( not in scope of RO...Mortar Barrages are ok )
-Arty Barrages come down to quick ( didn't like that about RO1...Should take 2-3 minutes or more ).
-Heavy buildings appear to be in ruines after 1 arty barrage ( this should take several hours or days to accomplish...Light building are ok to take 1-2 arty barrages to ruins ).
Unfortunately, one of the problems I see with devs of FPS games is they compress actions that normally take 2-3 minutes to accomplish in RL down to 1 minute.
People should really keep in mind, that several thousand rounds of Small Arms were expended per casualty in WWII.
Wow, such realistic graphics! That gameplay was totally awesome.
Gonna pre-order BF3, the next "shoot enemy Icons through a tree until the enemy does it to you" sim.
I don't get threads like this. If people are so concerned about RO2 and whether it will be 'real' enough (or if so-called 'noobs' will ruin it) then don't play it and keep playing RO. It's not like RO will suddenly disappear. Granted it may only be the usual 2 or 3 servers still going but then that really shows how much interest there is in a WW2 high realism shooter doesn't it?
...Origin(or whatever is called that POS) down our throats like it or not...
I like some of the points you make, but I think we need to be (Oh, the irony) REALISTIC in terms of the gameplay. I understand it should take longer than a few seconds, but having to wait 2-3 minutes for an artillery strike would kind of suck. And if I fired hundreds of rounds before I killed an enemy, I would look somewhere else for my fun.
Also, and flame me if I'm wrong guys, I feel that RO has never been about complete realism, which I am not opposed to. It simply has a lot of realistic aspects which make the game more immersive and enjoyable to those who like logically grounded games. I think RO finds a perfect balance where I have to use my head while playing, but I never feel I have too many choices to make or little things to do (Unless I'm in a tank, where I'm hopeless) before I can begin to plan my next attack.
If I wanted a completely realistic feel to my battlefield, I would join the army or play ARmA, which can be lethal (Bullets and boredom, respectively).
