We are trying to get OG back up and populated so we added about 40 new maps, their not brand new but just haven't been in circulation on the other servers, and we keeped the old maps in there too. Voting is on so you can vote on what map you will play next. We are thinking about having an Old Glory night on Fridays, no particular time just join when you feel like it. We are doing this also to attract back the state side players to play on a server that will give lower ping and better game play, you really will notice a big difference. So we hope to see a big turnout this and every Friday until it gets popular on an every day bases. Thanks a lot

with so many custom maps please please please have two things -

1 - A really good redirect

2 - As few other downloads as possible. Theres one of your servers with something like 16 furry jackets textures files that are tricky to download for some reason (euro servers i beleive ive posted about this before on roleague). These will cause people to simply give up and join an existing server.

I will pop along of im awake :p

If you happen to have all the maps, a single download containing all the maps, that I can shove onto my map folder would be very useful. As im sure it would be to the community.

I agree with Craig on the endless mods that sometimes appear on various servers. (Not TWB OG as far as I can tell.)
But I will say that the maps I have downloaded off of TWB OG have come across VERY fast, so the redirect is top-notch.
TWB OG is definitely worth your time guys! Let's make it rock again!

Well being someone who isnt from Europe nor the Americas and therefor gets ping 900+ on the American server..
I must say I feel somewhat neglected that the European servers arent getting the attention they deserve, ie: updating the map list after so long. You claim to have so many new maps? add some to the euro servers which are populated fully almost 24/7.

The maps do download pretty fast, usually under a minute. As for a folder containing all the maps you would have to talk to jim miller or Butch. They are the ones who worked on putting in the new maps. Klaus i know you asked me before about adding some of the maps to a EU server and im sure that will be done, but we want to attract the states side people back to OG first, if we put the new maps in their now everyone will just stay in the EU servers instead of coming back to OG. So lets just see what happens with our Friday Old Glory nights, and hopefully if we get it populated again then we can work on the EU servers.
Thanks

Well I heard you say you added 50 new maps to the American server.. so how about adding 10-15 of those to the EU server? I dont think that would remove the attraction from the new maps on the american server and keep the Euro server refreshed (cuz to be honest the current map rotation on the EU server is really getting old).

Hello everyone, all of the maps we added consist of just the map file themselves, so no extra downloads needed for the new additions. As for adding new custom maps to the EU servers, we will once we find the best maps to add that are 50 player compatible. We have always been on the lookout for new maps for our servers that maintain 50 players. When we do find and add them we find that after a couple days most custom maps reduce our server population so we have to be very careful about them.

The way we have been able to get around this problem with Old Glory is because it is not currently full, we can use maps that are smaller. Since we have map voting enabled, the players can choose what maps to play that fit the amount of players they have at that time.

We will not be adding map voting to the Eu servers as we just concluded a month long test, where EU1 had map voting and EU 2 did not. EU1 was empty except for a couple days, where EU2 was full nearly non-stop.

I'm from America, but I actually preferr the European Servers. I get better ping on them for some reason. Also it's nice to talk to a wide spectrum of nationalities and opinions.

As for maps, "the best" is a matter of opinion, so just keep whatever you have on there, and make the reload time 50/50, meaning half of the maps have to be voted for before the list clears them up again. That way you get to play all the popular maps, but are also "forced" to play ones which are still great, but maybe not well known, over time they too might become popular. Sorta Like Pavlov's House, I didn't even know the map existed until it popped on one night, and now it is on e of the most popular ones on TWB.

I don't see what the fuss is about over the EU vs. US servers, people will play on the one they want to, and the player community is smaller now, so we don't always have enough people to fill up both servers. If people want to play on the Eu one so be it, and if people continue to ignore the US one, then just drop it and save the money.

Map voting is annoying tbh. . . you can sometimes end up playing arad / zhito over and over or if they are balcked out, you tend to play all the stock maps then the server empties till some really horrible customs are gone.

@ Jim - have you consiidered maybe making one of your servers 36 / 40 slots?? Sometimes a full 50 is a little too much grenade rain :)

I have considered it in the past however, there where other providers in that segment that we wanted to respect. I will put thought to the idea again though.

Btw, with custom maps files bigger than 1kb do not need to be in the serverpackages list. The files that need to be there are the upl files converted to *.u files in order to not get the zombie issue.

These files never end in *.utx and should never be larger than 1kb the names of the files generally should end in *MOD.u

Is it possible to take notice of this and remove the unneeded files in all servers from the serverpackages. You can easily test this and see that the zombie texture issue does not happen when you remove files like EH_M43Texture or whatever from the serverpackages, as it will send that file fine over redirect when an actual map using it loads.

Well all went very well last Friday and even Saturday, i hope we can do this every week and enjoy all the fun we had in OG. Most of the maps we played were pretty good but i know there are a lot more we didn't get to. So this week lets try to remember the ones we played and start voting on the other ones we play. Hope to see you all again this Friday and thanks.
