Pardon me, I don't mean to be reflexive.

How do you feel about map scaling mitigating that factor?

I apologize, but I'm not an officer :p

Your clan is wicked. I really was being honest when I called you people gods, particularly ROladder organizers and server admins.
I think the whole countdown thing is mitigating the problem with too big teamsizes becoming a standard, because one life gametypes are good for lower player counts. But as I said, I never found too big maps to be a problem in ostfront. The clanscene made it look like a problem, like bswearer did :p

It will be really interesting to see soon how it will at least start out. I can't decide what I want to hope for. 5on5 and 8on8 as a dual standard or just 6on6. Not much to say until we have played the maps though, but logically I would think that two sizes will be popular enough. 5on5 and 8on8 or 4on4 and 6on6 or something like that.

6v6 RO-Fallen_Heroes.......epic battle? no. 6v6 RO-Leningrad? no. Mannikala? Rakowice? Kryukovo? no, no and no. if there weren't big maps that were problematic, then why aren't they all listed in the roladder map pool with the minimum (standard) 6v6? i don't see Mannikala or KrioviRog at all....Kryukovo, and Smolensk aren't eligible to play.

map scaling will definitely help improve play with smaller numbered teams. 6v6 on countdown (should it have multiple spawn waves like TW has been toying with) i could see working really well. we'll have to wait and see what the new maps look like with the scaling feature, but i'm still guessing it's going to be more suitable for 8v8 battles in territory mode.

Fallenheroes: Plays totally crap in clanwars, even in generell. We played it in EFC (~16v16) and it just... sucks.
Leningrad: absolutely playable with 6, but the round length is unacceptable for matches.
Mannikala: worst map ever, no one plays it in matches, at all.
Rakowice: totally playable with 6 and listed on roladder, so what?
Kryukovo: Public map, no one likes in matches.
KrivoiRog: oh come on, are you kidding me?
Smolensk: exploitable halftrack tactic, hence removed. Otherwise absolutely playable 6v6.

As I said before, most of the RO maps are designed for public servers. I still don't understand why 8v8 should be a standard just to make those crappy maps at least a bit playable, while they are unplayable because of other reasons or simply suck :p

Experience of the game way way way over competitive play.

The only reason competitive games have such small numbers has nothing to do with "skill" or "fun". It's just convenient to have lower numbers. If you imagine any E-sport with large teams it would be a massive hindrance to almost everyone.

Trying to form a 16-24-32-64 man team, as well have more than 2 teams in one place would just not work for anyone. More preperation. More things to go wrong. More equipment needed for LANs.

Let the game be made the way it will give you the best world war 2 shooting experience online. Then perhaps someone should tried to create clan tournoments with commentary and spiffy graphics. It could be the next step for vidcast gaming and esport. Someone just has to do it right and thats down to the community or people outside of the development/publishing aspect.

PS- I would totally look into large 32 player clan tournaments and try to arrange an interesting series of vidcasts. All it calls for is a set of different perspectives and ofcourse some photoshop, after effects, audio design and charisma =). Although it seems a bit demanding. But I imagine a lot of people would also be interested in seeing such a thing. I just don't know if anyone would attempt to have a go at making it real.
