The occular shadow effect happens when your eye's viewpoint is not perfectly aligned with the target. Its neat to have it when you move your sight quickly.

When raising your weapon to your eye, or bolting/reloading it, moving the gun away from your eye. The sight isn't perfectly aligned either and should get the occular shadow effect. While this doesn't seem to happen in game.

Like for instance in this screengrab you should see a huge occular shadow blocking pretty much everything while it doesn't appear.

A small thing, but you are right.

IMO just the fact that we have the shadow in the first place is amazing. I can live with it as it is.

Edit:
Something like this, right?

It should actually be entirely black afaik the shadow part you see is pretty much that you're looking at the side of the tube of the scope. Basically the spot of light would be further left so it falls completely out of the sight.

Twi tries to model the effect of your eyes not looking perfectly through the center axis of the scope giving the occular shadow, while when the gun is turned it is impossible to look through the center axis of the scope and thus you'll automatically get an occular shadow effect there as well.

Ya it should be totally black from that angle. I hope the devs see this... shouldn't be too hard to implement seeing as how they already have the system in place...

Hopefully this wouldn't be too hard to change - it would make the scope look much better in my opinion.

Indeed. Don't mind if it is the way it is (like Reise), but I've never seen a scope you could look through without it having to be properly aligned. That said I don't own any ww2 era scopes...

it won't be totally black because there would be reflected light on the inside of the tube.

It doesn't take much movement to before the occular shadow encompasses the whole scope. I'm no programmer (and I haven't slept at a Holiday Inn Express in ages), but it shouldn't be too hard to implement? If I can find something to capture a video of a couple of Leupold 40mm and 50 mm scopes, I'll upload something.

**edit** If I go out to the shop later, I'll get a Springfield with a WWII era Redfield scope. As 213 insinuates, the optics weren't nearly as good as they are today. Even the Carl Zeiss lenses....

***edit 2***Didn't get out to the shop, but here are some examples on modern day scopes with advanced optics and lens coating.

Yeah - good shout. The scope picture already disappears when switching to iron sights, so hopefully it wouldn't take a lot of work to replicate that effect while bolting.
