Objective based missions.

I think one of the things that could really set RO2 apart from many other games is to have varied and some non-stationary type of objective based missions.

For example, imagine a convoy escort mission. You have the simple goal of getting from point a to b where the other team has the goal of destroying the convoy.

The map itself is fairly large, encompassing both a small city area and a more rural outskirts area.

Now throughout the mission the squad leader has teh ability to order the convoy lead to change routes. This opens up the game and doesn't force it down the same path every time (so the enemy doesn't know where you will be and it just adds variety).

Doing this also could change the tactics.

For example, if you take the convoy through the city you open up your men to many good ambush positions, alley/buildings, etc.

If you go the rural area and try to stick outside fo the city you open yourself up to easy mortar targeting and fire

This also can lead to giving the enemy some small tactical choices to make as well.

Imagine that there's a bridge, now as the enemy you can blow the bridge and force the convoy into a funnel and have your team waiting for an ambush.

There are many other different kinds of objective based missions you could do as well and you could even base them around historical events and missions.

The convoy would be made up of small trucks and perhaps one tank or so leading them and the players on the team would spawn in the back of the various trucks in the convoy. Where each truck that is destroyed also has an affect on the spawning of the team.

It would just be nice and refreshing to have gameplay that is quite dynamic without the same "capture this area/blow up this stationary object" that has frankly been done over and over again.

Having things that can change based on various players actions keeps it fresh even after you've played it for a while.

A few other mission ideas:

A smaller mission (not for a large number of players, rather more for say <14'ish) where you have one larger team and then a smaller team. The larger team is on the defensive in the city with mgers/smg's making up their main force whereas the smaller team is a small group of snipers.

One player of the larger team is designated as the target and the snipers need to take him out. Now the person that's the target doesn't know this and neither does his team (this prevents him from simply staying in some back room/hiding under the stairs or such) and only the snipers will know the target (perhaps designated by his player model having a certain uniform, that they see and not him, like an officers uniform).

So the goal is for the smaller sniper team to find him and take him out.

(this would also really satisfy the people who like sniping but are never fast enough to pick the sniper :p ).

It would change after each round and have new players be the sniping team.

Why not multiplayer?

That's the point, to get multiplayer something that's fresh/varied and not your same old stale "blow up this same position every time" or simply capture this area that we've had in about any online focused shooter since bf.

You can still have your deathmatch/ctf stuff, just having more variety I dont think would hurt anything.

RO already is mission based with the missions being to capture objectives. One side defends while one side attacks, and in some cases both sides attack. In some maps a team is required to blow up obsticles, guns etc... the only deathmatch maps currently being used are for the REDTIDE tank tournament which were customized from other maps. i understand what you're saying and it is a good point....but multiplayer should never end up looking like a single player mission from CoD....EVER!!!!

RO:O (multiplayer since there is no single player campaign) has a very unique still of gameplay that has kept a large playerbase over the past 3 years....no need to stray too far from something so successful

Yes, my point is that although RO is fun, the game modes have been done to death.

Nothing to do witht he gameplay mechanics but with RO half of the time on the capture maps it becomes a team deathmatch because one side wins by killing the other enough that their respawn runs out.

Having something that is different/more unique and isn't done too often in multiplayer games I think would both add to the game's selling point (attracting new players) as well with more variety it will keep players attention for longer then just having your standard point/stationary objective missions that virtually every multiplayer focused game has these days.

I'm not s ure why some of you seem so focused on this somehow being bad? It doesn't mean you can't still have those other styles and IMO it fits in better with RO's more realistic style of gameplay if you have more missions that could be used historically.
