The Steam logo is right there on the box. If you don't know what that entails, it's not Steam's fault or TWI's fault. Welcome to....the last 4 years of digital distribution games.

Even so, the initial game files/installation should come included on the disk.

Why did you have to download the game through steam if the game files are on the disk? Did the disk come with just steam installation included? Maybe its just the patches.

on the caase of the game i brought it has no steam icon on it, they should put a label on it saying, "content to be downloaded from steam server" or some **** like that

The steam icon is on the back. It also says in quite large print that a broadband internet connection is required for activation and online or lan play.

The initial game files ARE included on the disk. None of the game code is. You still need to download it...

Again, this isn't like it's an outdated driver for your video card which they still ship with the card. I can't claim to know the exact cost of shipping boxes to the stores with game data on them, but I'm guessing there IS a cost, and they choose not to pay it.

Considering how far most games end up from their release versions...I'm ok with that. If Steam every goes out of business, I'll just end up downloading the most recent copy of the game and burning it to a disk myself, if they do.

hey,

i just went and purchased a copy of red orchestra 2, and i am not happy that it installs from steam.

whats the point of buying a game only to have it be downloaded from the steam server, using up all my data on my plan... bunch of nazi's squeezing every last penny out of you.

lets just say this camper will not purchase another game from this publisher.

wiki.

p.s. your a bunch of money hungry idiots

All the data on your plan? Your internet has limited downloads?

That's insane. I've never heard of anyone having that. Stop being cheap and get an ISP that doesn't limit your download capacity, like 99% of the ISPs out there I'd assume.

The game code has changed so much since the disks were printed, that it would have been pointless to include it...since you'd have to re-download the updated code when you installed it.

I understand your frustration, but there isn't anything we can do about it.

man some people are pretty stupid, game was broken on release, game discs contain data from before release - of course you are gonna need to download a lot of new stuff, the game gets constant updates, even if your disc contained the current version of the game, you will still need to download a lot more stuff in the next few weeks, cos the game is broken. It is no ones fault, even yours, that your isp sucks.

I have had same thing in the past, buy a game, install it, then steam downloads 5 gigs, it is annoying, but I didn't go on the forums to cry about it before I even played the game.

What? How can you say that Steam squeezes pennies out of you? How old are you ... 12?

It sounds like it, Steam is completely free. Buy what you want to buy. Tripwire will never probably leave Steam because its so good. Steam is the reason Tripwire even publishes games anymore.

Because its such a good program, Almost everyone has it. Though im not sure if you are stupid or just trolling. Its a bit hard to tell.

It's like me holding the battery to something you own and paid full price for but you can't use it unless you come over to my house to use the battery. You can't have the battery either, it's not yours to own, I'm just giving you the capability of using what you already paid for as long as you come to me first unless I otherwise state permission to use said battery, maybe later I'll let you borrow it or have it.

But instead of buying it at my house, I gave you the option of buying it at the store...although you still have to come to my house either way to use what you bought. So you might as well have just bought it directly from me instead of the store...even though for me it doesn't cause me any inconvenience because I'm not the one having to do anything in order for you to get what you bought to work, you have to come to me regardless...not sweat off my back. But you still have to pay me full price either way.

Even though you have the disc version, its actually better to download the game itself, seeing that one is the most current updated one.

Also note that you'll need to redownload the maps once Tripwire does their optimization passes on them.

i got a warning for my first post lol

You deserved it. Don't show up as a guest on someone's web site and call them idiots. Rule of thumb, there. You bought a game. You didn't buy a platform to insult people.

I love Steam.

I love the convenience of the downloads and updates. I love the HUGE awesome community and the communication and I love the deals on games they have all the time. I love the achievements, stats and fun events. I love the loads of free games.
I've gotten to the point where if a game isn't on Steam, I won't buy it.

Sounds like the real nazi's are the people charging you for internet.

no it is not like that at all, it is like buying a game on disc, but the current version of the game is different, so you have to download it.

I also possess the ability to tell the battery to go anywhere I please, and I can use it there, too. :IS2: I can also burn that battery to a disk, and store it for future use.

Guess the thread starter lives under a rock, there been many games nowdays and for more than 3 years that even if you buy the disc/dvd you will still end up downloading it fully online. In some cases it will only download portion of the game though. I remember one such case with Dawn of War 2, the original back on beginning of 2009. I am aware that especially in Canada folks are screwed with limited data plans. But this is 2011 and downloading full products online is expected.
