so i've started modeling about a week and a half ago and i was inspired to make a soda can that i've dubbed noob juice. atm i have a uv mapped model but it still needs some work so i'm not gonna show it but i'll show you guys the texture i put together for it :)

lol Couldn't resist the m14+fp

oh yea and yes there is a metal seem on the left tho i'm thinking of make it thicker for a better look on the can. atm i have a cylinder uv map as well as 2 face maps for the top on bottom.

edit: and by some work for the model i mean tweaking about the uv/face mapping the middle and bottom look good but the top is kinda suckage

I'm not really sure what to talk about since you don't want to show the model...?

you could make this a little interesting. ever play call of duty world at war nazi zombies? well can you somehow integrate this can into the biocola machines, and when you press use, you spend some money and get the juice? :p idk if that's possible for a mut though, to be able to look through a map, find that machine, and add a use trigger to it. maybe you can just have fun adding it to your maps!

na it'll be fine as long as it doesn't give health or anything
it could cost a single pound or so and it'll spawn a noob-juice actor that disapears after a while or could be made into a pickup that gives nothing but has the text "You Now Have Noob Juice!!!" lol

Max, Maya or Blender? The suckage you're referring to is the transition from the middle to the top right? With a cylindrical unwrap or uv map modifier this is pretty hard to avoid. Adding in grunge to the meeting edges will help break it up.

If you are actually talking about the upper face of the can then you could relax by face angles to straighten it out but it should already be fine with your mapping.

As far as the texture goes it looks ok to me, you may want to try and remove some of the lighting from the top and bottom and as far as the middle, I think the FP and m14 would look alot better if you blended them into the already grungy background youve created.

non of those actually lol. i use autodesk softimage(xsi mod tools),
and yes for the middle section i used cylinder mapping for a base and made face sub mapping for the top and bottem but i don't think i'll be able to get it into a way i like it but it still looks good :)

and about the texture for the can.. i actually had the grime texture in the layer above everything as an overlay and no matter what alpha it would look as if those parts were unaffected.. i think it's because of the overall color of those parts.. i really don't want to change it up tho..

Vending machine looks good. I see what you mean with the top of the can but thats an easy fix in Photoshop or Gimp. In the UV the top of the cans off center, center it up and scale it in till it no longer rolls over the edge.

Couple things I do when UV mapping and texturing an object is first I have a UV test material, something like a checkerboard texture and one thats numbered is a huge help when mapping the object out. 2nd I always render a UV template so I can see the faces and edges to use as a guide when texturing. I'm not familiar with softimage but you should be able to render out a diffuse and a UV template.
