Ah well, no doubt the game will still be fun though I do predict, and the devs should do well in preparing for this, a backlash from gamers who will find the absence of AA bad.

AA is not as standard as it may appear. Many big game titles have no or only very limited AA, Unreal Tournament 3, Borderlands, Bioshock, etc. all have no or limited AA, and it is all because of Unreal Engine 3's lack of AA support. It is not because we are not officially supporting AA that there might be no ways to get it to work after all though.
All the tricks and hacks out there to make AA work in other Unreal Engine 3 games will also work for The Ball. nHancer for nvidia cards may help. And you can run The Ball in DX10 mode, and that should get you AA normally. One guy succeeded in doing that. All 100% untested and officially unsupported though.
