Light map size and other lighting/shadow issues make day/night cycles VERY unlikely I would imagine.

But bring on the rain.

Seasonal change wouldnt be possible on the fly. However most sections were fought for twice, so the primary difference on the map would be a beauty pass. This is not easy or whatever, but its easier than start with a completely new map from the starting position.
Great idea!

Play Penguin's Partisan Forrest map. While I enjoy it, a lot of people moan and gripe about it because they can't see anything.

And then of course there are those that adjust the contrast and gamma on their monitors to brighten things up and more or less defeat the mappers intent.....

so called 'gamma-hacking' can defeat the object of night/dark maps but if you can create high contrast with artificial lights that would blind someone with gamma set bright (well if not exactly blind maybe lose defintion) it might help.

Phaps worth noting is that by accounts russians often timed attacks for dawn to catch german vehicles unprepared and immobile due to the night's cold, i've read.

A fog of darkness can be used to evade gamma hacking. Just like a smoke nade blocks your vision a fog can as well.

Another thing could be to not make it pitch black but allow people to play in early morning or late evening. So you can still see but will obtain a different sky colour.

I do hope that any day/night cycle wont change in a game over a period of a 30 minute map. But rather would be initiated at the beginning of map and perhaps change just slightly.

Instead of changing from day to night you could for example change the maps weather from partially cloudy to rain. This would be realistic but still change the atmosphere of the map.

Have anyone noticed that the screens of the grain elevator are in pretty sunny bright mid day, and in the video interview, playing the same map, it looks like fugly cloudy afternoon?

You can see a clear sky, and the light coming from the exact opposite direction.

I really hope this means random weather and daytime... because I liked the screenshots much better than the looks of the map in the video, I'm tired of so much grittiness everywhere, so I really hope that the visuals in the video are not just "the new version" of the map.

it is a really great idea ! :)
I'm not asking too much, but at least random rainings and many clouds ! (which would hide the sun..obviously not as an eclipse..)

Wow, good catch. Variable weather would be awesome, but failing that, I really do hope the final version is in daylight with clear skies. The whole "the sun never shines in WW2" cliche is just stupid.

As long as they have or implement more than one variable which affects the "Feel" of the map, and makes it seem completely different, Light/Dark or Rainy/Foggy etc..., than I'm completely fine with it. I believe we all just don't want the same maps day after day, as it gets boring.

On a plausibly non-relative side-note, Mortal online uses one version of the Unreal Engine. They have varying weather cycles, so I know with at least one version its possible, also the NIGHT/DAY stuff seems likely/possible as well as we saw it in the videos posted earlier, whether it be in the form of 2 different maps with altered lighting or a change in effects as in the video I'm sure it can be a rather simple undertaking in Programming terms compared to some of the other ideas and suggestions in other threads.

Another thing I'd like to add is SOUND! Whatever and whenever the weather changes, there should be a new Sound associated with it. I'm not just talking about rain having water droplet sounds, but perhaps more intense Thunder, and lighting cracks in the distance. Perhaps even throw in a 3d sound feeling as well so that the Sound feels like its moving or changing distance and directions. Even if they don't include any of this I think Sound could still have a profound effect on immersion too, as we all know it does, but getting more into the 3d stuff I mean. Imagine sitting with your Kar98 and seeing slowly moving clouds overhead. As you move through your dugout behind a heap of rubble it begins to lightly drizzle. Moments later a Roar of thunder rolls across the map in the distance (3d effect). During different periods of the gameplay the Rain becomes Harder and Softer, and with it the sound of the surrounding gun-battles becomes more muffled and then clearer and more distinct. 3d Moving sounds along with simple, even Crappily done animations, can have a huge effect on immersion, and when you change it up itcan have a huge affect on making a map feel different and unique on every Playthrough! Lemme know what you think amigos. BTW I really love the steam store page I've got one of the pix as meh wallpaper!

BTW, Zetsu I saw you asked this exact question in the IRC Interview w/ John Gibson. They said they hadn't had it implemented at that time but they are considering it. Thanks for watching our backs bud.
