^above post was for some other dude's comment.
I think we all agree that night/day cycling would roxorz. If this can't be an option, I think it'd be simple enough to have different versions of the maps at night/day too. Also just and Idea to those worried about not having enough light, Whatabout the light provided by the moon? There will obviously be some light. Like most nights with a moon out you can tell someone is a football field away, but you can't distinguish them easily at all, whether their weapon be in one or both hands, until they come literally like 75' away. Also besides moonlight, Flames, possible Flares, and others...what about gun flashes? You are watching an MG's back in a pitch dark hallway and due to the flash of the mg's firing you see a German behind you with a shovel/knife gettin ready to melee you in the arse.
One of the key ideas that this plays into is Community. Let's face it that's what makes or breaks a game. Providing more options really can make each server unique, and provide a more user-specific and custom WW2 Eastern Theater Experience/High. Thus making gameplay more fun=>more players=>greater community=>more fun...etc. IDK maybe I'm just mumbling but I used to run a DODS realism clan, and community was everything. Valve really nailed it on the head with making it easy to mod/create new gameplay maps and elements. This led to some servers, especially in the realism community, having more appeal than others due to more options. For example, if my server had night maps, people feel more bad*** running around in squads at night than they would on a stock Donner map. Ditto for snow, and rain maps. Maps are the world we game in, and making them change/seem unique could move HOS's fun factor score up significantly. -JC
