Everyone seems to be complaining that TWI is only showing off the "fancy unrealistic CoD bait"

This video wasn't made by TWI, it was made by someone else with a camera, who happened to be playing with a silenced gun that you all hate.

You got ONE perspective out of a server that would otherwise be filled with 63 other players.

TWI is yet to make a full on gameplay trailer, and probably for a reason. And I am sure when they do, you'll get to see it all the way it really is, from every angle. At which point you can all make a proper assessment of what it's really going to be like.

Like REZ and HockeyWarrior have said, even I am starting to burn out on all the fluff weapons promotion...

..and just for the record, I havent made any comments about the rare weaponry. The whole jist to my posts was basically in response to people who snap to a knee-jerk Secret Service type defense of Tripwire and jump in front of the concerns of others as though they were deadly bullets by saying 'it's optional! you don't like it, don't play there!' - because in reality, there may be no other option depending on how the server landscape settles over the first 6 months or so. It's like taking a dismissive back of your hand sweep at anyone who isnt in wholesale agreement with what TWI is doing.

..and if you guys wanna take my words out of context again and try to throw me in the 'whiny b!tch' bin that you so loosely pile everyone who has a legitimate concern into, I'm more than prepared to quote my own previous posts in defense. I'm not talking to you Moe, I'm talking to these kids who can't hold a conversation with anyone who doesnt share their views.

At 1:16 the collision seems off.

He starts in cover, then 'disactivate' cover and he can just aim down the sight without having to step back.

Thought the weapon collision prevented you from aiming when there wasn't enough space:confused:

Yeah, is the weapon collision just not ready or did they decide to scrap it?

I just hope theres uber hardcore realism modes. I want to see a game mode where the Germans are dug in, but the Russians all have smg's and 10 grenades.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I think Hockey's concerns are just as legitimate, they make perfect sense, and he and those who share his sentiments (including yourself) have been polite, clear, and level-headed about how they've posted their views.. it's just that he and I werent really talking about the same thing :p

Let's have a serious discussion:

We know that the MG34 unlock is the double drum magzine. What about the DP28? It has to be man-portable, so it can't be another heavy machine gun.

The only thing I can think of is the DT with 70 round pan magazine.

The rare weapons aren't a problem at all as long as they are also rare in the game. And, again, TWI gives server admins the ability to customize many of these things. They're optional. You can still play full realism. I think a lot of people, who don't bother to read, keep forgetting about these things. Options are GOOD.

What worries me is that the many rare weapons shown in the screenshots and video are beginning to give the wrong impression to people outside our forums, especially to people who know a thing or two about WWII. You don't have to be a history buff to know that silenced revolvers were almost never used in full combat (not during WWII, not today). That's common sense.

The devs have promised that these weapons will be rare in the game, yet there hasn't been a single batch of screenshots or video that didn't show them. Ignoring the trolls and the usual angry realism clanners on this forum (often the same thing), most of us understand WHY these weapons are included and understand that they will only be seen in limited numbers. But I can easily imagine that there are a lot of people, who don't follow the forums and don't read up on the details of the game, are left with a bad taste after seeing these rare weapons being showcased repeatedly in TWI's PR. Especially people who have at least a basic knowledge of WWII. That history buff out there, who watches RO2 media on his favourite gaming website or forum, might not buy RO2 after seeing the MkB for the 412th time, despite being interested in the game. He might think "The MkB? AGAIN? A silencer? WTF? Alright, screw this."

I'm not saying that the inclusion of the rarities is a bad idea, I'm just saying that showing them so damn often in screenshots and video might be. It even gives the wrong impression to some forum regulars here. The fact that that gameplay video doesn't even have sound, and is a poor quality shakycam vid, makes it even worse and unsuitable for promoting the game. Showing off the rare weapons so often might hurt the game.

Which leads me to repeat: the game comes out in two months, so a good 1080p HD video is really necessary by now. Show us multiplayer campaign gameplay, as that is one of the game modes that really makes Red Orchestra 2 stand out from everything else. Show some first-person infantry combat with bolt-action rifles, some tank footage, the campaign map and combat power screen (and how people vote to attack a certain sector), all in one video. Using realism mode. Without showing the Trollkarabiner and other rarities for once. Tripwire, you've shown plenty of Hero and 'Relaxed realism' stuff, so now it's time to show off some honest REALISM. :)

Just some constructive criticism.

Am I wrong?

Nice gameplay footage, but those "rare" additions to the weapons really concern me.

It's ok when one or two guys in a 64 player server have access to them, but what happens after 3 months when everybody with higher ranks running around with silenced nagants, double MG mags, mkb's and all those rare weapons? TWI needs to explain their unlocking system and weapons to us.

Also a silenced revolver in the game, really TWI?

I think the servers can choose the amount of heroes there are in the server. So there can be one per team of ten per team.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, because I want to know to.

More people ***** about silencers than any other weapon mod before, because is a weapon mod unconsciously associated with modern combat, lighting up everyone's fears of this game turning into CoD.

It probably has to do with the fact that is even more awkward than an MKB-42. ;)

While it existed back then, was it even used by infantry?

And, again, TWI gives server admins the ability to customize many of these things. They're optional. You can still play full realism.

Depends. Will there be plenty of realism servers (as in over 5) without heroes and odd weapon unlocks over a year after release? If so, that is great and I have no issue with it.

But I doubt that will be the reality. We can look at similar games such as Insurgency, BFBC2 and even RO1. Servers with the least realism tend to be the most popular. Kill message servers where modified into INS and it is impossible to find a server without them. I've rarely played a server without them in RO1 as well. I am sure RO2 will be no different when it comes to kill messages and other realism settings.

You're completely correct.

Tripwire needs to start showcasing what makes RO2 truely innovative. More focus on gameplay and less on hero weapons. Tanks and infantry battles on new maps are what people want to see. A 1 minute video showing 2 tanks duking it out would do a hell of alot more then screenshots of weapon unlocks. You would get 10,000 views alone for showing a tanker getting torn apart by an AP shell.

I'll agree completely with Nimsky. A very good post!

There's a lot of articles in various gaming magazines about RO2. People, that never heard about RO before, might read one of those articles, get interested, search for a video, and get a shakycam-nosound-4playeronahugemap-video and it will just ruin their impression about the game. TWI really needs to put out an HD gameplay video with a full-scale battle. It doesn't have to be long, or show a lot of stuff. Just some basic gameplay. In addition, if you do the video, you'll avoid showing "problematic" areas of the game, and no-one will see people spawning right in front of your gun, or other stuff which might turn off some of the players.

And about the rare weapons. I also don't really get why you're showing'em so often. If they really gonna be rare, then whom are you showing them to? If it's the RO community, then I believe the majority of the community is not very happy with the rare weapons, so the basic stuff would be better appreciated. If it's the casual COD audience - then I see no point, as the majority of them have no idea what weapons were used during the Stalingrad Battle, so they just won't appreciate it either. If it's the history buffs, as Nimsky stated - they won't be happy about it as well. So let those weapons come up as a surprise when people will get into the beta or buy the game on release, and better show some basic stuff.
